Hoe Down is taken from the ballad Rodeo, composed in 1942. From the ballet,Copland extracted Four Dance Episodes to form an orchestral suite for the concert hall: Buckaroo Holiday, Coral Nocturne, Saturday Night Waltz, and Hoe Down.
