Flying Cloud 1854 - Gene Milford
Flying Cloud is a rhapsodic concert piece based on two sea shanties, Heart of Gold and The Lily of the West. The piece has dramatic shifts in orchestration and colorful harmonies that are reminiscent of standards in the band repertoire. This is a wonderful teaching piece for young bands.

The magnificent concert march Aurum (lat. gold) was written on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the cunductor of the municipal band of Wolfach, in Baden-Wrttemberg, Germany. The march begins with a light and playful theme. The following lyrical trio provides a contrast, with its nod to Edward Elgar. After a number of key changes the introductory theme returns in canon. Finally, the music heads to a majestic finale, inwhich the trio theme is played as a splendid baroque chorale.

Parry, associated with the words O praise ye the Lord. There are seven contrasting variations that will provide much interest to the player as well as the listener, the seventh of which is a fugato which leads into a triumphant finale where the theme is heard for the first time in its completion. This, we feel, will be a significant work for Wind Band as it has been for the brass band movement.

And Then the Ocean Glows was commissioned by Niihama Grade School and its director, Mr. Shinichi Tagawa and completed in April of 2002. Mr. Tagawa and I titled the piece together, drawing from sectional themes of "Shining Morning Ocean", "Wind Stormy Ocean" and "Large Mother Ocean." Before I began composing the piece, I visited Niihama's rehearsal and met the band's inspired young students. The work's theme and melodies are enjoyable and compelling for musicians; I would be delighted for bands to experience this fresh composition.Niihama Grade School Band performed this work for the All Japan Band Contest in 2002 and advanced to divisional level to receive a gold prize. The band also appeared in the TBS Children's Music Contest and received a first prize. (Satoshi Yagisawa)

Get on Board - Stephen Bulla
Stephen Bulla strikes gold again with this accessible but jazzy Trombone section feature. There is plenty of rhythmic fun for everyone while the trombones get that important time out front. This composition was written on the occasion of the golden jubilee of the De Pinte wind band. This is also the derivation of Latin title Aureus (golden - from the word aurum, or gold). This work is comprised of three main sections. Thefirst and last sections are predominantly a musical setting of the concepts of celebration and joy in keeping with the theme of jubilee. The music is therefore above all dynamic, energetic and extrovert. The middle section has a more introspective,melodic character, contemplating the subtle beauty of life. Aureus is a newly composed chorale that establishes the most important attributes in life and also within a club or association: love, friendship, health and happiness.

Aurelia (CB) - Filip Ceunen
The concert march Aurelia was commissioned by Wind band 'Sint-Jorisgilde' from Meerhout-Gestel (B) on the occasion of their 115th anniversary. The march was written in a cinematic style with references to the anthem 'Oh mijn liefste Meerhout' - Oh my dearest town of Meerhout. The name 'Aurelia' is based on the topographical configuration of Meerhout, as it were, which is in the form of a butterfly. Aurelia is the Latin word for (gold) butterfly.

Lion City Festival was commissioned as one of the test pieces for the Singapore Youth Festival 2010, an annual event at which school ensembles from throughout Singapore can receive gold, silver or bronze awards for their performance. The English name for Singapore comes from Malay Singapura, which has Sanskrit roots meaning 'Lion City'. Lion City Festival is in the form of a quick march in ABA form. An opening fanfare leads to a perky march tune which is taken up by the full band. A change of key heralds a legato trio section before the main theme returns in varied form. Roaring fun!
