Old-Fashioned Sleigh Ride - Scott Watson

"Old-Fashioned Sleigh Ride" paints a warm, nostalgic musical portrait of a one-horse, open-sleigh ride like those depicted in a "picture print by Currier & Ives." Woven into an easy-going theme are the clip-clop of horse's hooves (temple blocks), the regular ringing of bells on bobtails (sleigh bells), and the occasional whip (slap stick) and horse's whinny (trumpet). This piece is sure to become an instant holiday classic for young bands! (3:00)

    Olympia - Brian Balmages

This powerful fanfare captures the spirit of Olympia, the birthplace of the Olympic Games. The opening figure in the percussion is reminiscent of Aaron Copland and introduces the opening theme. As the theme seamlessly develops, the piece picks up tempo as snippets of the fanfare theme are interjected between lyrical statements in the woodwinds. Great (and flexible) percussion writing adds depth to the work. In addition to the regular part, an optional advanced snare drum part is included for accomplished percussionists. Bold sounds yet extremely playable!
