A piece that works extremely well for good middle school bands as well as high school bands. Not outrageously demanding, with some very exciting percussion parts, it is a great combination of artistry, musicality, and technical accessibility.

Night Flight of the Gargoyles - Timothy Loest

This harrowing work depicts a horde of scowling, bewitched gargoyles as they break free from their stone perches and fly about under cover of darkness. After a vengeful introduction, the aggressive theme takes off, supported by bombastic percussion. Each section gets its say with the melody, and your clarinetists will love playing the bloodcurdling screams. A bold and dramatic work for concert or contest!

Night in the Tropics - Louis Moreau Gottschalk / arr. Mark Williams

Grab your suitcase and get ready to spend a Night in the Tropics! Composed in Guadeloupe in 1859, it was written to be performed by combined symphony orchestra and large band, with improvisational parts for many local percussionists. This arrangement of the second movement is based on original manuscripts found in the New York Public Library. Great fun!

Nightfall in Camp

Nightfall in Camp is a very clever arrangement that combines The Last Post, and the hymn tune Unto the Hills. The band parts are very reasonable for young players but the solo part should be played by a more advanced player. This piece can be performed at Remembrance Day services, or on other solemn or dignified occasions.

Nightride - Robert Sheldon

This impressive composition includes expressive moments that range from menacing to tender, aggressive to introspective, and capricious to heroic. The multi-meter high-speed romp in the opening Allegro yields to a heartfelt, lyrical Adagio before returning to variations of the initial theme that culminate in a raucous conclusion. Everyone has melodic moments and the percussion section certainly has opportunities to shine.
