Fanfare Supernova

Open your beginning band's very first concert with this bold new fanfare by popular composer Larry Clark. Like a supernova, your band will explode right from the start with this forceful new piece that sounds much more difficult than it is to play. Fanfare Supernova contains biting fanfare-like harmonies, though it only contains the first six notes of the Bb scale and the most difficult rhythms in the winds are quarter notes.

Fanfare: Generation Next was written in honor of retiring director of Bands at Camp Hill Senior High School, Mr. Dean Zirkle. See the musical rendering of the name "DEAN" constructed with notes D, E, A, and "neighbor tone" for N. This bright and aurally stimulating piece is full of movement and life. Students won't be able to get enough of this work.

Fantasia for a King

Brilliantly scored and cleverly constructed, this treatment of the familiar Christmas Carol "Good King Wenceslas" is symphonic in scope and breadth. As usual with Thurston, the harmonies re sophisticated and rhythmic interest is maintained with shifting meters and accents. Fantasy on "O Come, O Come, Emmanuel"

This fresh interpretation of the Christmas standard will develop your player's expressive and technical abilities while still engaging and delighting audiences. Beginning with a chorale statement of the original hymn, the ensemble soon encounters an expanded percussion section, changing time and key signatures, unique rhythmic patterns and various musical styles, while individual players are challenged with syncopation and dynamic demands. Fantasy on Capriccio Italien - Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky

Capriccio Italien was based on Italian folk songs and was composed by Tchaikovsky in 1880. The work was inspired by his trip to Rome. This fantasy utilizes the capriccio's themes in order to capture the essence of Tchaikovsky's music for concert band. Although technically reduced for medium to medium-easy ensembles, it still retains all the fire and energy of the masterwork. This is a wonderful selection to not only introduce a classical composer but to also work on phrasing, balance, and dynamic contrasts.

Fantasy On Early American Tunes

Farallones

Farallones is inspired by the Greater Farallones National Marine Sanctuary (GFNMS) off the Northern California coast. Farallones (Spanish for "cliffs") are a set of islands sometimes referred to as The Devil's Teeth by mariners - citing the many dangerous underwater shoals and shipwrecks. The opening section in 7/4 depicts the rugged environment around the islands. Descending scalar motifs and trills emphasize the fluidity of the seascape. The 12/8 section is a development depicting the resilience and dangerous beauty of the area.

Farandole - Georges Bizet

Your band will love to perform this famous Bizet theme in a playable arrangement by Andrew Balent. The piece is musical enough to use for contest/festival performance yet not too difficult to perform. The tune is familiar enough that everyone in your audience will love it!

Festival March - Victor Herbert

A cherished classic,Festival March is presented in this new edition arranged by Richard Summers. It is a tour de force composition for advanced bands and hearkens back to a bygone era during the golden age of the band movement. Directors and students will hear operatic music from composer Victor Herbert who is best known for his Christmas classic,Toyland. This is a richly scored masterpiece that deserves to return to "standard" status in concert band repertoire.

Festive Dances

Robert Thurston's enormously attractive writing for band and his sure command of contemporary harmonic and rhythmic devices give this three movement composition by terrific band and audience appeal. Thurston's fondness for mixed meters will keep players on their toes. The 2nd movement (moderato) in particular has a memorable folk-like lilt and charm. The whole piece is bound together by the use of the motto C-E-C, the initials of the composer's teacher, the late great band writer Charles E. Carter, in whose memory Festive Dances was written.
