The second theme is used again in the B section at a brighter tempo with an accented style. Varying key changes, tempo changes and one 7/8 measure, will make this appealing and interesting to young concert bands.

Awakened Like the Morn - Robert Sheldon

This stirring composition was inspired by Ann Terry's poem In Every Age and was commissioned by the Ottawa Elementary and High School Music Fest held in Ottawa, Illinois. Originally conceived as a song, the lyrical quality of the piece comes shining through in the various moods of the piece, from spirited to wistful to triumphant! A tremendous addition to the young band repertoire.

Awakening Hills - Richard L. Saucedo

MusicWorks - Grade 3 Commissioned for the All Iowa Middle School Honor Band, here is an exuberant work that features dynamic ensemble passages, layering effects, and extensive percussion scoring. Richard's masterful development of repetitive rhythmic motives makes this sound more difficult than it really is. A contrasting middle section uses brief solos for alto sax and flute over a rich harmonic texture. A powerful statement for band. (5:10)
