Beacon Of Polaris - Gary P. Gilroy

The Clovis North Educational Center opened its doors in the fall of 2007 as part of the Clovis Unified School District in Fresno, California. Beacon of Polaris was commissioned to honor the first graduating class, their teachers, school and community, in a musical celebration. Unique in its conception and planning for the future, this thrilling and substantial piece serves as a thank-you to the work of those who provided a guiding light and path, a Beacon of Polaris, for the many people who will walk the halls and classrooms in the future.

Beacons - Tyler Arcari

Beacons was written to celebrate the career of a legendary teacher from Alabama. She has been a champion for small school bands and created one of the most renowned band programs in the state. Her motto is "Be a Light".

Beale Street Blues - W.C. Handy

W.C. Handy's swingin' blues is always a highlight of a Canadian Brass concert. David Marshall's adaptation for band features ad lib solos (written out) and some 'downright dirty' dixieland for the entire band. Great fun for all!

Beat It, is one of Michael Jackson's most popular songs, awarded two Grammys for its commercial success. Seen by many as a rock song, Beat It was ranked by Rolling Stone magazine as one of the "100 Greatest Guitar Songs Of All Time." Since its release, the song has been covered and famously reinterpreted by artists such as Fall Out Boy, Fergie and most recently Masamicz Amano, who has made this wonderful arrangement for concert band!

Beating Beats - Jan Van der Roost

Beating Beats rhythmically is a rather special piece: more conventional metres are manipulated in such a way that the listener (without score) may be confused and even misled at various points! The 'regular four beat accents in a 4/4 measure for example are often not adhered to, giving the impression of a different metre altogether. However, at the same time it may be that some instruments do follow this "normal" 4/4 metre, thus confusing everyone - performers and listeners alike! On one hand, it is a "simple" piece with very playable and melodic themes, but their mysterious rhythmic makes it not only sound more complicated, but also makes for a greater challenge for both players and the conductor! As is mostly the case with Jan Van der Roost's works, the orchestration is both colourful and contrasting, with every section of the modern wind orchestra used equally. All in all, it's a work full of surprises with some unexpected harmonies and special melodic lines but above all, with metrical and rhythmical sure to catch you unawares!
