This impressive new composition by Richard Saucedo features a variety of musical styles in a contemporary sounding setting. The Chorale is written with lush scoring and emotional peaks and valleys. The driving Presto uses mixed meters and a combination of woodwind flourishes and fanfare-like brass figures. The Chorale theme is creatively woven into this section as well, and the ending section builds to an exceptionally strong and rhythmic conclusion.

As the title suggests, this piece comprises a set of variations on an original chorale,which is presented in the opening bars.The chorale uses the dark middle and lower sections of the band and is extended with minor variations until a pause leads to the first real variation, marked Vivo. This is in the form of a moto perpetuo. The second variation is a beautiful Andante introduced by a solo clarinet. Following a full band climax the final variation opens with quiet, nervous energy until its main theme is introduced.The chorale makes a brief appearance until the main theme reappears. This leads to a triumphant final augmented statement of the chorale theme, decorated by theflorid clarinet theme in the upper woodwinds. A dazzling new concert work.

Chorale for Peace - Thierry Deleruyelle

Chorale for Peace is a song of hope and peace for humanity. In commissioning this work, the wind band of Le Portel (France) wanted to pay tribute to the victims of 8 September 1943, when around 100 Allied planes dropped more than 5,000 bombs on the town of Boulogne and the surrounding area. In fact, this operation was nothing more than a diversion to make the enemy believe that a landing was imminent in the north of France. This music is slow, an adagio commemorating the human sacrifice of this operation. But more broadly, the composer also wanted to express his support for the peoples who, even today, suffer oppression. This set includes an optional choir part that offers the possibility of making an even deeper impression on the listener.

Chorale From Concord - Clare Grundman

Commissioned by The United States Marine Band and premiered in 1987, Clare Grundman'sConcordhas remained a staple in the wind band repertoire. The middle section of this work is a beautiful chorale based on the early hymn Americacomposed by William Billings. Adapted here as a stand alone piece for younger bands, this is a stunning example of lyric writing and glorious harmonies.
