A Scottish Hymn is a chorale arrangement of a hymn composed by Charles Hutcheson, a Scottish merchant and amateur composer who lived from 1792 to 1860. This hymn was given the title "Stracathro," a typical Scottish name after a town in the district Angus. The melody is used with various hymn texts in the Scottish church.

A Sevenoaks Suite - Philip Sparke

A Sevenoaks Suite was commissioned by the Sevenoaks and Tonbridge Concert Band from Kent in the south-east of England. The suite describes 3 famous landmarks in the Sevenoaks and Tonbridge area: 'Knole Park', situated to the south-east of Sevenoaks. 'The Chapel - Tonbridge School': This movement centres around a hymn-like chorale, depicting the years of worship that have taken place within the chapel, and 'The Vine Bandstand' suggesting the type of music often played in bandstands. It is in march form, but is not actually a march throughout, veering off into other styles before ending emphatically.

The _x005F_x001F_first movements of Andrew Watkin's A Sherwood Fantasy is presented in a stately 6/8 meter. The lovely melody of the second movement is sumptuously harmonised. The third movement of this very varied work is peppered with changing rhythms and modulations, which give the music a fresh and lively character. A hymn completes this beautiful musical creation.
