Artemis is the Greek goddess of hunting and forests. In western art she is often pictured with deer, lions or bears with a bow in her hand. The tempo of this march is stately and the themes are "concertante" in character making Artemis best suited as a concert march rather than a street march. Technically this march is not too difficult although at times some dexterous fingering is necessary. The trio melody is especially lyrical and offers various sections within the band the possibility to show off their skill in playing the expressive melody. As All the Heavens Were a Bell (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Bocook, Jay

Commissioned as a tribute to the Fire Department of New York City, this immensely moving work was premiered at an emotional performance for the firefighters in Manhattan this past March. The composition opens with a striking brass fanfare accompanied by woodwind flourishes. A sensitive treatment of the melody from America (My Country, 'Tis Of Thee) follows using haunting vocal colors (cued in F Horns). The nation in turmoil is depicted in an intensely driving and powerful section which evolves marvelously into a full-blown treatment of America with chorus and band. A truly magnificent musical tribute to the heroes of 9/11.

Pastorale on a Traditional English Folksong. Pierre La Plante is well-known for his mastery at creating concert band settings of folk tunes with Grainger-esque style. "As I Walked Through The Meadow" is a pastorale setting of a traditional English folk tune that, with careful attention to intonation and expressive playing, will give your ensemble's musicianship a chance to shine. The middle section is a variation on the main theme which returns, builds to a climax and ends quietly in a somewhat wistful manner. A beautiful choice for concert or contest change of pace.
