CAMBRIAN SUITE (Prestige Concert Band Extra Score) - Ball, Michael

Extra Score. This suite - originally a brass band work - was commissioned jointly by the Black Dyke Band and the Brass Band Heritage Trust. The composer later made this version for concert band. The work is intended to be played without a break but divides naturally into three sections. Each section is based upon a traditional Welsh melody treated in free variation manner, respectively Gwyr Harlech (Men of Harlech), Suo-Gan (Cradle Song) and Codiad Yr Hedydd (The Rising of the Lark). There is a momentary reference to Yr Deryn Pur (The White Bird) at the end of the second section. This short suite is scored for maximum fullness and sonority, and will make a fine contest piece for Class C bands. The majestic opening is followed by a lyrical melody featuring a trumpet solo, and a development section building to a broad maestoso recapitulation.

Cambridge Intrada (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Sparke, Philip

This short processional was designed to be played as a concert opener but can equally be used as a sort of extended fanfare at presentations, graduation ceremonies and similar occasions. Its title evokes the noble grandeur of the university buildings in the English town of Cambridge where pomp and circumstance are still a normal part of life. A fanfare-like passage opens and closes the work and sandwiches a more legato central section.Duration: 1:15

Cambrinus (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Pannerden, Matthias Van Nispen tot

The name Cambrinus, a corrupted variation on 'Jan Primus' (John the First), refers to the flamboyant John I of Brabant, who was the Duke of the Dutch provinces Brabant and Limburg, in the second half of the 13th century. This piece of music tells the story of this notable man, starting with the Battle of Worringen in 1288, where he scored a glorious victory, followed by an exuberant celebration in which he also contemplates about the suffering he and his men have caused. The works offers exciting energetic musical scenes with lots of action, as well as beautiful romantic and heroic themes offering plenty of opportunities for your band to unfold all its qualities. This piece for beginning players opens with a majestic fanfare followed by a tuneful march melody. Even at this easy level, Michael has built in enough scoring variety and contrasts to keep every member of the band interested and engaged.

Cameo Suite

The two pieces which comprise "Cameo Suite'' come from diverse backgrounds, one American and the other English. "The Nightingale'' is a traditional English folksong about unrequited love. The "Glendy Burk'' was composed by Stephen Foster and is a riverboat song depicting the life and times of the riverboat "Glendy Burk'' on the Mississippi.
