Inspired by the legend of a mythical ancient kingdom (in present day South Carolina), The Land Called Chicora is a programmatic work telling of the 16th century Spanish and French explorers in search of this treasured civilization. With descriptive scenes ranging from the majestic sailing ships along the coast, to the foreboding forests of the interior, to the impending treachery of the natives' threatened way of life, this impressive work is both magical and rewarding. The tune for Child in a manger first appeared as Bunessan, composed in the Scottish Islands, published in 1900 as a Christmas carol with lyrics translated from the Scottish Gaelic by Mary McDonald. The hymn tune later appeared in 'Songs of Praise', published in 1931 as Morning has Broken. This arrangement represents one in the Series of Band Arrangements compatible with David Willcocks' Carols for Choirs.

Opening with a heroic fanfare, this stunning original composition was inspired by the 15th century Inca citadel Machu Picchu and specifically the Intihuatana stone in what is now southeastern Peru where sun worship was favored. Many historians have come to refer to the Inca Empire as "Children of the Sun." The work continues with an intense, almost frenzied, component that sets the stage for an active interplay of contrasting themes featuring a melodic statement interrupted by accented percussive statements. A pensive and lush moment builds with strong percussion contribution to a bold and satisfying conclusion. Duration: 4.45
