Dedication for Band (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Turrin, Joseph

American composer Joseph Turrin is acclaimed for his work with symphony orchestras, classical performers, theater and film as well as his works for school bands. With Dedication for Band he brings a significant addition to the repertoire for mature ensembles. The work is based on five melodic ideas that reoccur throughout the piece, including an opening fanfare that introduces the main theme. With a concentration on climactic tension and expansiveness, this is a masterful and dynamic composition for band. Duration: 9:00

This Clifton Williams masterpiece has been well-known in the band repertoire for decades. In this adaptation for younger groups, Jay Bocook has streamlined the instrumentation, made judicious cuts, and eliminated some of the extreme brass ranges of the original. This superb edition deserves serious consideration for contests or festivals.

The composer writes: Seeing the Hubble Deep Space Field for the first time is an experience much like listening to a powerful piece of music - it elicits feelings of wonder and awe that can be difficult to articulate. Deep Field, inspired by the Hubble Deep Field images, premiered with the Minnesota Orchestra & Minnesota Chorale in 2015, conducted by the composer.

Grammy Award-winning American composer Eric Whitacre's symphonic work Deep Field was inspired by the world's most famous space observatory, the Hubble Space Telescope, and its greatest discovery, the iconic Deep Field image. The new film - Deep Field: The Impossible Magnitude of Our Universe - illuminates the score by combining Hubble's stunning imagery, including never-seen-before galaxy fly-bys, with bespoke animations to create an immersive, unforgettable journey from planet Earth to the furthest edges of our universe. The soundtrack features a new, epic Virtual Choir representing 120 countries: over 8,000 voices aged 4 to 87, alongside the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and Eric Whitacre Singers. The smartphone App playing the Deep Field electronica should be triggered by audience members from bar 217 to the end of the piece, as cued by the conductor.
