An Emerald Jubilee celebrates a 40th anniversary. Jan de Haan composed this colourfully orchestrated concert march to celebrate Will van der Beek's 40th anniversary as conductor of the Deutsche Musikverein Haaren. As publisher of van der Beek's transcriptions of classical works Jan de Haan can look back on many years of successful collaboration with the knowledge that there will be many more to come. Unusually cast in a minor key, the main theme provides an interesting contrast to the more melodic major key of the second movement. The relatively slow theme gives this march a dignified stately and subdued quality.Duration: 2.45

Emperata Overture (Flexible Ensemble - Score and Parts) - Smith, Claude T. - Earp, Joseph Benjamin

Emperata Overture is a wind band classic for concert and festival alike. The original publication of this work established Claude T. Smith's use of the 7/8-time meter as his signature rhythmic device for instrumental ensembles. This flexible arrangement allows ensembles to perform the work with as few as fourteen musicians providing accessibility and flexibility for numerous instrumentation needs, while still allowing a full ensemble sound.*The posted recording is based on the full band scoring but aligns with the suggested preferences for either woodwinds/strings or brass suggested in the score.

Emperor (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Deleruyelle, Thierry

With Emperor, French composer Thierry Deleruyelle wanted to create a descriptive musical work depicting the life of Napoleon Bonaparte. The first movement represents the idiosyncrasies of this famous personality as well as his dramatic mood swings. The second movement is dedicated to his great love, Josephine Beauharnais. A contrasting third movement depicts Napoleon the fearless general and the countless battles he waged. A truly powerful work about one of histories truly powerful men.Duration: 10:30

Emperor Waltz (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Johnson, Stuart

Johann Strauss (the younger) was only six when he wrote his first waltz and it was obvious at an early stage that he would rival and outshine his father. His waltzes were meant for dancing - the opening bar is for partners to bow by way of introduction to each other - and when the "Emporor Waltz" was written in 1888, Strauss was director of the Imperial Court Balls in Vienna.
