General Sherman (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Jeanbourquin, Marc

General Sherman is a giant sequoia situated in the Sequoia National Park, in California. The naturalist James Wolverton named it in homage to the famous American general William Tecumseh Sherman. The impressive character of this sequoia inspired the composer, but the introduction could also evoke General Sherman arriving in the distance. Marc Jeanbourquin imagined how this giant could be in all its grandeur, attempting to climb into the foliage to find the light that filters from the top. But energetic passages indicate that the presence of the general is never far. The work concludes with a reminiscence of the initial theme, full of mystery.Duration: 5.15

Generations Fanfare (Concert Band - Score and Parts)

Generations Fanfare was written in a film-musical style on commission for the Bezirksblasmusikverband (Wind Music Federation) Imst in Tirol, Austria. The composer, Otto M. Schwarz, composed this grade 3-4 standard piece in an attempt to make his film-musical language accessible to concert bands. In the distance trumpets and percussion make their melodic entrance, followed by the whole band. This opening piece is appropriate for every festive occasion. 02:00

The slow sections feature brief solos for alto sax and trumpet, while the fast sections utilise a driving pulse and creative interplay between the winds and percussion. Geneva Variations (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Bulla, Stephen

This work is based on the 19th century American hymn melody, Resignation, which is also known as Psalm Tune (Psalm 23) based on the words The Lord Is My Shepherd. It is in the form of a theme and variations with each of the four variations evoking different moods using a fragment of the original tune.
