TO THOSE WHO SERVE (Concert Band) - Bullock, Jack
"To Those Who Serve" is in the style of a very contemporary concert march. The main theme is introduced by horns and alto saxophones and proceeds with varied instrumental colours, through the related minor key and then back to the original theme with a bold flourish at the finish. It has dynamic rhythmical and melodic impact. The overall effect of this composition is punctuated with the crisp and clean style. A solid choice with a welcoming familiar sound. Duration: 2:11

Volare Wind Band Set (Score & Parts)
In 1958, Domenico Modugno (1928-1994) song Nel blu dipinto di blu (or Volare) was the Italian entry at the Eurovision Song Contest. Modugno did not win the contest (he became third) but the song - a true sing-along - turned out to be a worldwide hit. In the course of decades, Volare has been translated into various languages, and performed by many artists of repute, like The Gipsy Kings, Dean Martin, Louis Armstrong, Petula Clark, and David Bowie. With this catchy arrangement, Lorenzo Bocci has given Volare a wonderfully fitting Concert Band sound. 0:03:45

Flashpoint - Tyler Arcari
A high-energy rhythmical work that uses meter changes, syncopation, dotted quarter notes, and tied rhythms to create excitement. Great use of unison scoring reinforces the rhythms and adds great power to the sound. Other effects such as horn rips and handclaps add an extra layer of color. The perfect opener for your young concert band!

Bahumba - Peter Sciaino
"Bahumba" is a nonsense word but a no-nonsense selection for concert band. The word stems from a sound composer Peter Sciaino heard coming from an idling car. The engine, clearly having issues, had an "uneven" gate or pulse. He mindlessly heard the word "Bahumba" within the sounds emerging from the struggling motor. Just like an engine, an ensemble can attain a smooth groove even if "uneven" in terms of pulse. While the percussionists are often asked to provide this groove under the melodic lines, they ultimately break out with a feature that essentially places a percussion ensemble within the context of a concert band piece. (2:43).
