£38.20De Garde - C.J.N. Cori
Cori was a pen-name of the Dutch composer Cornelius Herminus Rijke (1888-1975). He was conductor of several amateur wind bands in Hilversum and Muiden. Cori wrote over 40 marches, 27 of which have been published by Molenaar Edition. The very first 'Avanti' was released in 1948, another, entitled 'Imperial', was published under the pen-name Charl. H.Ride . Other popular marches by Cori are 'Concordia', 'De Opmars', 'Entre du Dfil' and, above all, 'De Garde'(The Guard), a stirring parade march published in 1949.

Kelly wrote this march for the 1948 Kneller Hall March Contest. With the 4/7th Dragoon Guards Kelly took part into the landing in Normandy on D Day, june the 6th 1944; actually he was injured himself at the end of july. 'ARROMANCHES' is a suiting tribute to the heroes of the Allied landings at Arromanches.

This selection commemorates a musical monument of the entertainment music of the last quarter of the 20th century.

Mitchell Parish wrote the lyrics to the music in 1950. Since then many famous artists have recorded and performed this song, including the Carpenters, Ella Fitzgerald and Diana Ross. This Sleigh Ride arrangement by Stefan Schwalgin is close to the original and will be a great addition to any Christmas Concert.

The English composer Andrew Lloyd Webber (1948) has been able to produce one world success after another over the past five decades. The controversial musical and film Jesus Christ Superstar (1971) was followed by Evita (1976), Cats (1981), Song and Dance (1982), a combination of Variations and Tell me on a Sunday, Starlight Express (1984) and Requiem (1985). His Phantom of the Opera premiered in 1986 starring Sarah Brightman (Lloyd Webber's former wife) and Michael Crawford. Paul and Barry Ryan were identical twin sons of 1950's pop singer Marion Ryan and were born on 24th October 1948. They were groomed for stardom and had started singing as a duo before their fifteenth birthday. They were signed by Decca in 1965 and brilliantly marketed as clean-cut fashion icons. Their first single 'Don't Bring Me Your Heartaches' reached the UK top twenty but their success as twin performers lasted only three years. In 1968 Barry embarked on a solo career while Paul concentrated on writing and producing. Eloise with its melodramatic vocal style and heavily orchestrated backing was an early success of this new collaboration and went on to be covered by a variety of artists, including punk legends The Damned.Duration: 5:30
