Shine Bright (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Roszell, Patrick

This musical upbeat celebration of life was inspired in part by the John Steinbeck quote in The Winter of Our Discontent, "It's so much darker when a light goes out than it would have been if it had never shone." Beyond the brief introduction with flute solo, the piece is persistently bright and charismatic. This piece can be used at any event, including graduations, concerts, or contests throughout the year. Watermelon Sugar (Flexible Ensemble - Score and Parts) - Sheppard, Mike

Watermelon Sugar was the summer hit of the year 2020. It is a song by the British singer-songwriter Harry Styles, who felt inspired by the title of the American novel In Watermelon Sugar (1968) by Richard Brautigan. The melody of the chorus had already taken form during 'Live on Tour', the debut tour that Styles embarked on in September 2017, finishing in July the following year. On a free day, Harry and his band went to The Cave Studio in Nashville, where they created the chorus melody. It is said that the song is about Styles' ex-girlfriend Camille Rowe. Mike Sheppard arranged this catchy tune for a flexible (six-part) ensemble as a lasting memory of the extraordinary year 2020. Duration: 3.00

The Wand of Youth, Suite No.1 (Complete) (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Elgar, Edward - Noble, Paul

The Wand of Youth suites, subtitled Music to a Child's Play, were written in 1869 when Elgar was only twelve years old, music written for a play and acted by the Elgar children for a private family theatrical production. He noted the tunes down in a sketchbook and in 1907, forty years later, he rearranged with only minor changes and orchestrated them as the two suites titled The Wand of Youth, Suite Nos. 1 and 2. Although The Wand of Youth suites date from Elgar's mature years, he insisted on calling it Opus 1, because he wrote these pieces originally for piano many years earlier. Suite No.1 includes seven movements: 1. Overture; 2. Serenade; 3. Minuet (Old Style); 4. Sun Dance; 5. Fairy Pipers; 6. Slumber Scene; and 7. Fairies and Giants.

I Say a Little Prayer (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Schaars, Peter Kleine

This bittersweet song from 1967 is a real classic, partly due to the rendition by two queens of soul, Dionne Warwick and later also Aretha Franklin. The theme was very topical at the time: A woman is concerned about her husband fighting in the Vietnam War, and thinks about him during her day-to-day worries. Top arranger Peter Kleine Schaars created a tasteful and carefully orchestrated version. His arrangement stays true to the original colour and feel of the song, and, as a grade 3 piece, is still perfectly playable for most bands. Duration: 2.30
