Prelude, Opus 28, No. 4 - Chopin, Frederic
One of Frederic Chopin's best known works, Prelude, Op. 28, No. 4, presents emotion-packed performance opportunities for bands at all levels. This new Ed Huckeby transcription for band provides an almost literal translation of Chopin's original work with tremendous musical challenges in both the interpretive and dynamic realms, providing the ensemble an opportunity to explore musical possibilities which might be less attainable in a more technical piece. The recognizable melodic and harmonic structures will make this piece a real "hit" with concert audiences and provides an opportunity to teach the musical styles of the greatest 19th century composer of piano music. Great music!

A bucolic sense pervades the score and translates into a restful and uplifting musical experience.Douglas Court has done a marvelous job in bringing the orchestral textures to the young band stage. His considerable experience with directing young bands and his many fine compositions expressly for musicians at this level give him the ability to make the music as playable as it is authentic. Sinfonietta No. 4 - Philip Sparke
Philip Sparke's Sinfonietta No. 4 is comprised of three parts that are played as an uninterrupted whole. The _x005F_x001F_first movement begins with a lyrical fugato passage, framing a brisker and more rhythmical middle section. The second movement is slower and contains a long and expressive euphonium solo. The third movement is a salute to the sponsor of this commission: various percussion instruments conjure up sounds reminiscent of a carpenter's workshop, accompanied by a unison orchestral passage in a scat style.
