MetaMarch - Steven Bryant
The Music of BCM International In this third installment of a series of pieces that quote and rework familiar band themes (after Chester Leaps In and ImPercynations), composer Steven Bryant uses the classic march themes Americans We, Liberty Bell March and National Emblem as the basis of this humorous and unexpected take on the traditional march. Slightly warped, but unmistakably entertaining, this well-constructed novelty is sure to bring a smile. (4:00)

Brick Street Encounter - Richard L. Saucedo
Displaying a wide variety of colors and textures, here is an exceptional work for young bands. Whisper to Their Souls (based on Greensleeves) - Samuel R. Hazo
Here is a unique and creative setting of the familiar tune Greensleeves (What Child Is This?) that opens with the melody scored softly for the woodwinds. The full ensemble contributes a series of harmonically rich phrases until the work reaches an emotional climax at the powerfully scored key change. While this is certainly effective as a holiday offering, it can be performed as a memorable tone poem any time of the year. Dur: 4:10

Nurture - Edward Fairlie
There are some people for whom the act of nurturing is innate. The work they do is often unheralded, acknowledgement of their effort the last thing on their mind. But nurturers carry pain, too. Their own burdens, anxieties andhardships often take a back seatto that nurturing impulse. This piece is a meditation on that idea: that some people, not without their own deep personal obstacles, can't help but live out the powerful instinct to hold thosearound them in a warm embrace of care. ~Edward Fairlie Dur: 4:50 (Recorded by the Eltham High School Symphonic Band, directed by Rick Plummer, guest conductor Edward Fairlie)

Holst's ability to develop and explore folk melodies with rich, lyrical treatment is fully realized in this sterling example of the final phase of this remarkable composer's career. The smooth and peaceful declivities of the Prelude, the expressive Cantabile of the Air, and the sprightly 6/8 Dance combine to give your audience and your band a truly enriching experience. It was written for the 20th anniversary concert of the Ridgewood Concert Band in New Jerseyat the request of the band's founding director, Dr. C. Christian Wilhjelm. The piece itself lasts not much more than a typical one mile horse race and depicts the event from the observer's perspective: the initial burst of energyat the starting gate and the ensuing excitement approaching the first turn, the suspense as the race develops along the far stretch, and the increasing drama as the pack rounds the final turn and heads down the stretch for the bigfinish.
