    Kingsfold

provides ultimate flexibility for ensembles with incomplete instrumentation or odd combinations. These pieces are playable by as few as 5 woodwind, brass or string players with or without percussion. This creates the opportunity for a mixed quintet to perform these titles but also allows for performance for 10-15 players up to full a band/orchestra with parts doubling. Great for music camps, contest use or any band room that has non-standard instrumentation. This beautiful folk song has been used as the melody for several popular hymns including "I Heard the Voice of Jesus Say," "O Sing a Song of Bethlehem," "I Feel the Winds of God Today," and several others. It is a beautiful work that seems to float along both melodically and harmonically. This arrangement is opened by a solo voice with a sense of a lone player on the top of a hill surrounded by mist. The tune is then played in full quartet voicing leading to other variations and re-scorings. It ends as it began, very peacefully and reflectively.

Suite on Canadian Folk Songs - Morley Calvert

Suite on Canadian Folk Songs was written as a Centennial project in 1967 and originally scored for brass band, although the music of the first movement had appeared in Suite from the Monteregian Hills in 1961. Until this edition, the concert band version has remained unpublished, although it has attracted the admiration of many band directors. The suite is in three movements; the first and last being arrangements of French Canadian folk songs, and the middle movement an arrangement of folk song from the province of Newfoundland.

"Next Is the Planning"---the rebel forces begin planning quietly but with purpose and drive. This builds as "The Forces Gather"---louder, stronger, and passionate about their beliefs. This inevitably leads to "Battle!" where the forces collide in combat. Short aggressive bursts of sound lead to "Victory Is Ours," where a new order takes their place in charge. "Celebration" begins and builds to a joyous conclusion.

Latin American Symphonette (Symphonette No. 4) - Morton Gould

Morton Gould, equally comfortable in the worlds of both "serious" and "light" music, presented his symphonettes (an Americanization of the term "sinfonietta," much like kitchenette and dinette) as works of a truly American vernacular, drawing on popular culture as well as classical forms. His Fourth Symphonette is a departure from the musical language of the previous symphonettes, as it is bursting with latino rhythms, each distinct style in its own movement: I. Rhumba, II. Tango, III. Guaracha, and IV. Conga. Completed in 1940, the work was premiered by the NYA Symphony in New York, under the direction of Fritz Mahler. The saxophones, guitar and piano, although desirable, are optional and fully cued in the other parts. Generally, all parts are well cross-cued so that the work can be performed with a smaller orchestra. Instrumentation in set: 3(1&3 d.Picc).2.3(+BCl).2: 2ASax(dCl).TSax(dCl).BSax(dCl): 4.3.3.1: Timp.Perc.(3): Hp.Gtr.Pno: Str(9.8.7.6.5).

    Dragonfire Overture - Kevin Kaisershot

The dragon has throughout history and in many cultures been associated with power, majesty, fear, mystery and legend, just to name a few. The dragon depicted in this composition is that of the European dragon versus the Chinese. In this sense a fierce symbol of power and fury as is evident in the music.
