Paul Yoder is one of the big names in the history of American wind band music. He was a pioneer in teaching the developing youth bands in the USA and by spreading the modern wind band music repertoire throughout Japan. He wrote over 200 works for symphonic band. 'Dutch Treat' was composed in the early seventies and immediately published in 1971 by Molenaar, a personal friend of Paul Yoder. It is an original arrangement of a traditional tune.

JEF PENDERS (Hoensbroek 1928) is also a very popular Dutch wind band music composer who also does a great job as conductor, arranger and recording supervisor. In his novelty Glenn meets Wolfgang (1969) he arranged the tune of Mozart's 'Sonate Facile' into the Glenn Miller style. It proved to be a successful formula as this piece was followed by 'Glenn beats the Battle of Jericho', 'Glenn plays after the Ball' and, more recently, 'Glenn mucks about with the clarinet'. We still do not understand why the excellent Russian composer Georgi Salnikov did not yet completely break through as band music composer in Western Europe. His exquisite music for symphonic band boasts all ingredients to appeal to large audiences. Molenaar Edition already published several of his compositions, such as Burleske, Children's Suite, Poem for French Horn and Symphonic Band and Russischer Reigen. The merry Overture for a Summer Afternoon opus 51 is a most welcome addition to this specific original repertoire. As always, Salnikov's signature guarantees a composition of high quality.

The first part 'Blue Valsetto' is a fine swinging jazz waltz introduced by a trumpet solo; the second part 'Blue Lamento' is a most lyrical low blues also introduced by a trumpet solo; the third part 'Blue Train' is a fine swinging piece of big band music in a true Duke Ellington style.
