£124.99A Hero's Tale - Bert Appermont
This composition is based on the life of the German cavalry general Hans Michael Elias von Obentraut (1574-1625), who was known for his nerve, loyalty and courage. The figure Van Obentraut is closely connected to the town of Seelze, where he died a heroic death and where a monument was erected in his honour. The work consists of four movements in which various aspects of this historical figure are featured. What is extra special about this work is the fact that its first movement (Hymn for a Hero) had been made available as an easy version for flexible band. This makes it possible for a youth or beginner band to play along with a band of adults or advanced players. This hymn can also be played as a separate piece.

It was written for the Swiss Musikverein Muttenz; this music society celebrated its 125th anniversary in 2021 - more than enough reason for a commissioned composition. At the heart of this piece are several elements that inspired the composer. First of all: nature, infinite and inexhaustible, giving life and power, something bigger than humans can grasp. The composer used the Gregorian hymn 'Veni Creator Spiritus' as a leitmotiv to reflect this idea. A second element was the passing of David Maslanka, a dear friend of the composer, honoured in the work by a few musical 'echoes'. At the end of the work, there is a passage for optional choir in different possible settings. The Source was commissioned by the Banda Giovanlie Regionale ANBIMA FVG, Italy, and is an impressive, stirring and moving piece of music.

This composition was commissioned by the Musique Municipale d'Ingwiller, for the occasion of their 150th anniversary. The source of inspiration for this work was the municipality of Ingwiller in the French region, Alsace. The title of the work refers to the many buildings there that are made of red sandstone, and to the 'Schlembe', a train connecting Ingwiller with Bouxwiller for sixty years. It consists of 4 movements, all related to the city of Ingwiller and its history. This bright and positive work offers beautiful melodic themes, slow passages perfect for working on intonation and phrasing, as well as pleasant parts for Percussion.

This work was commissioned by two fanfare bands from Loksbergen and Kortenaken in Belgium, that have merged to form one single ensemble. This festive work has been constructed using two contrasting elements: a rhythmic, fast theme full of character, combined with a melodic, sensitive and slow theme. The title refers to the enthusiastic, fiery character of the opening passage, the fast section, and the renewed passion and drive that has been created due to the merging of the two bands.

After attending a performance of Hnsel und Gretel by Engelbert Humperdinck, the composer decided to write a commissioned piece for 4 horns and concert band based on the beautiful melody "Abendsegen", as used in Engelbert's famous overture. The composition can be performed with three or four solo horns with cues in the others parts and in the band. This work can be played with the horn section of your own band; the two extra horn parts noted in the full score are optional and can be left out. This piece is a stunning challenge for your french horn section!

This composition is based on the beautiful chorale melody Wie schn leuchtet der Morgenstern (How beautifully the morning star shines). Like the chorale fantasias by Bach and Buxtehude, this is a fantasia in which the original theme is usedand altered throughout the work in various ways. Slow passages are alternated with fast ones, and finally a grand tutti arrives in which the original chorale theme sounds joyfully in a majestic finale. For extra colour and dimension, an optionalorgan part has been added, that can be used when the circumstances are appropriate. On the full score, the various organ entries are indicated.
