Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy
First made popular by the Andrews Sisters back in the '40s, later by Bette Midler in the '70s, and now your very own trumpet section can be the stars of this hoppin' tune from the swing era! Even though this arrangement has been scored for young players, the authentic swing style still comes through in an entertaining version sure to please. Make sure your buglers have their autograph pens handy.

Fanfares in Remembrance - Peadar Townsend
Fanfares in Remembrance was commissioned by Nick Jarvis, Principal conductor of the Band of the Royal British Legion, Christchurch, Dorset, UK to be premiered during the Last Post Ceremony at the Menin Gate, Ypres, Belgium on May 27th, 2017. The work is a short reflection two World War One bugle calls, 'The General Salute' and 'Retreat' or 'Sunset' as it is also known. The significance and symbolism of bugle calls from this era are well known and they are still used in Barracks across the world. I have used sections of these famous British bugle calls on two trumpets either side of the band playing in two different musical keys. The band then plays an intermittent low drone like chord, again in a different musical key to the two trumpets. In my mind this opening depicts two buglers at dawn at either end of a misty field directly after a brutal slaughter. The two buglers are almost calling out for their missing comrades only to realise they are gone...... The work moves into a haunting oboe melody signifying loss. The oboe is joined by the full band in a tune of strength, solidarity, yet profound sadness. The work concludes with a recap of the opening idea; however, the two buglers are now united in musical key sounding 'The General Salute'. The music ends as the wind blows gently. The memories live on forever......

Tattoo - Eric Ewazen
Tattoo is the stirring Finale of Legacy, commissioned for the bicentennial celebration of West Point. The opening theme is based on the bugle call which signals a return to quarters at day's end. The score includes antiphonal effects with optional offstage Bugles and field Drum, creating an authentic military sound. The old West Point song Benny Havens leads into the reemerging Tattoo theme, now answered by other Bugle calls, bringing the work to a rousing conclusion. Dur: 6:00.

Keep the Faith - Score and Parts - Duncan Stubbs
Program NotesKeep the Faith originally started as a personal tribute to my late mother. Not long after writing the opening ideas I was approached to write music to accompany a rendition of the poem "We Will Keep the Faith" by Moina Michael for performance as part of the 100th Anniversary of the start og World War I. The appropriateness of the music already written and the sentiment behind both concepts was a coincidence too good to overlook. Rarely sentimental and always practical I feel sure my mum would be delighted that the music she originally inspired was being used to portray a much wider universal message of remembrance.Whether performed with or without the poem a fully sustained sound should always be aimed for. The 'bugle' call at bar 20 and again at bar 76 should reflect a distant call across the trenches, the cornet remaining prominent over the upper woodwind. The tempo indication is a guide only and allowance must be made for the acoustic in which the piece is performed. The music must always flow, but appropriate rubato should be freely used together with appropriate tenuto in the middle of phrases.- Duncan Stubbs

On Parade - Edwin Franko Goldman
Edwin Franko Goldman's energetic composition On Parade is both programmatic and descriptive of parades from yesteryear, complete with bugle, fife (piccolo), and drum strains. In addition, a joyful vocal refrain was included in the 1934 edition of the march with lyrics by Goldman. Edward Lisk's meticulous, modern edition brings this wonderful new march to the attention of a whole new generation of band musicians.
