Nurture (Windependence Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Fairlie, Edward
There are some people for whom the act of nurturing is innate. The work they do is often unheralded, acknowledgement of their effort the last thing on their mind. But nurturers carry pain, too. Their own burdens, anxieties and hardships often take a back seat to that nurturing impulse. This piece is a meditation on that idea; that some people, not without their own deep personal obstacles, can't help but live out the powerful instinct to hold those around them in a warm embrace of care. ~ Edward Fairlie Duration: 4:50

Cherubic Hymn of Ukraine - Yakiv Yatsynevych
Ukraine was invaded on February 24, 2022, and the world again became spectators to a conflict between unequal opponents. Once again we saw lies, injustice and brutality up close.I must admit that a feeling of powerlessness arose when experiencing this, an empty feeling of not being able to do anything useful. One early Monday morning, a few weeks into the conflict, I sat down to listen to Ukrainian music.I hardly knew any Ukrainian music, but I was familiar with the composer Mykola Leontovych, the man who composed "Carol of the Bells". He was a member of the Ukrainian liberation movement, and he was assassinated by a Soviet agent in 1921.One of his contemporary colleagues was the composer, teacher and conductor Yakiv Yatsynevych (1869-1945). He wrote church music and choral music, and I became very taken by his Hymn to the Cherubim, a part of the Orthodox Mass.I could not find any sheet music for this. But I have listened to numerous choral recordings, and I have tried to notate the music as I believe the composer himself has done originally.I chose to do the arrangement for a solo group of 4 players. These players can be placed at a distance from the ensemble, maybe on a gallery or at the back of your concert hall. The arrangement was made for Brttum Brass for their participation in the Oslo Brass Festival in April 2022.The performance in the church this particular night was met with a long-lasting silence after the last note. The warm respect, the moving response and love we felt from the audience is a memory I will carry with me for a long time.In the lyrics to this psalm, one finds the phrase:Let us now lay aside all earthly cares- John Philip Hannevik - |

The suggested instrumentation and a customizable Teacher Map will help you plan out how to best assign parts to suit your ensemble's needs. The 3-part instrumentation will support balanced instrumentation of the lower voices. It also comes with supplemental parts for maximum flexibility. With the purchase of this piece, permission is granted to photocopy the parts as needed for your ensemble. A percussion accompaniment track is also available as a free download. String parts have been carefully edited with extra fingerings and appropriate bowings to support students in mixed ensembles playing in less familiar keys. The Dragon Dance is a popular event in traditional Chinese culture, especially during Chinese New Year celebrations. Originating during the Han Dynasty (206 B.C.-200 A.D), the dance is carried out by a team of performers that carry the dragon on poles, fluidly mimicking its supposed movements. Drums, cymbals, and gongs usually provide the musical accompaniment to this beautiful and colorful performance. Duration: 1.30

It Don't Mean a Thing (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Ellington & Mills - Mashima, Toshio
Edward Kennedy 'Duke' Ellington's influence on the swing era as musician, bandleader and composer is unparalleled. His arrangement of his own composition It Don't Mean a Thing (If It Ain't Got That Swing) is perhaps the first to carry the word 'swing' in the title, thereby coining a musical phrase. Toshio Mashima's stylish arrangement of this jazz standard for concert band hits the perfect note.Duration: 4:20

Continental Divide - Stig Nordhagen
The title is "Continental Divide" and it has nothing to do with tectonic plates, but is another word for "Watershed". It is the place where the the water flows in opposite directions. For example, when you drive up a mountain, the water flows downwards, the same does it when you drive down the other side. On top there is usually a water, and it is in this water, or musical idea if you like, that it is a continental divide. What I intend is that in this piece there are some musical motifs that change character and direction. They can be in the foreground and carry the play, or they may be in the background as a countermeasure. It can also be from horizontal lines to vertical. Orrhythmical patterns that dont find their match until far into the piece.

Triqui-Traqui - Paul Desenne
Commissioned by Gustavo Dudamel for his 2017 New Year's concert with the Vienna Philharmonic, my Caribbean reinterpretation of Strauss' famous Tritsch-Tratsch Polka was deemed tooosefor the occasion, yet the maestro recorded it that year, not in Vienna but in Caracas, with the fabulous performers of his orchestra, the Orquesta Sinfnica Simn Bolvar, and published it on the web as his musical New Year's greetings card. The gesture was meaningful, and bold. I'm convinced that Johann Strauss, a man immersed in the fashions of his city and his time, would have loved the idea; a musical collage which carries in its banter a very strong aesthetic statement. The lightest and most frivolous things seem to always carry the deepest messages, let us not forget. ... ... Today, this version of my transformed Tritsch- Tratsch Polka forSymphonic Band created by Steve Boehm, will certainly tickle the Viennese in each and every one of us, and we will be very happy!"
