This piece is about the resurrection of these bands following a political decision in favour of the renowned military music organisation structure in Austria. 'The Rise of the Phoenix' is an impressive piece, full of bright, colourful melodies and an incredible positive ambience. There is a beautiful slow middle section with a touch of romance, leading to a spectacular maestoso finale in which you can hear a hint of a famous military signal (as also used in Von Supp's 'Light Cavalry Overture'). Commissioned by the Military Wives Choirs to commemorate the centenary of 1918, the end of the First World War. The Vocal score is available separately - NOV167387-01To mark the centenary of the end of World War I, the Military Wives Choirs - 69 choirs from across Britain and abroad - commissioned Owain to write a piece for their album, 'Remember'. The text for Owain's work, 'The Poppy Red', is inspired by the 1918 poem 'We Shall Keep The Faith' by Moina Michael, itself inspired by John McCrae's 'In Flanders Fields'. The recording brought together 1105 voices with The Band of the Household Cavalry, conducted by Hilary Davan Wetton.

The Thin Red Line is based on two bars of the Band of the 2nd Battalion of the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders regiment's bugle call. The title and term originated in a journalist's description (a "thin red streak tipped with a line of steel") of the appearance of the red-coated Argylls (under their alternate name of the 93rd Highland Regiment) as they stood before, and repelled, a vastly superior force of Russian cavalry at the Battle of Balaclava during the Crimean War.

Inspired by the operetta successes of Jacques Offenbach in Vienna, Franz von Supp (1819-1895) began composing his first stage works from 1860 onward. "Isabella," his comedic opera in one act from 1869, had its premiere in Vienna. The overture features both Spanish and Viennese melodies. Although Supp's music doesn't always exhibit a typical Viennese sound, he secured a place in concert halls with his overtures such as "Poet and Peasant" or "Light Cavalry."

£124.99A Hero's Tale - Bert Appermont
This composition is based on the life of the German cavalry general Hans Michael Elias von Obentraut (1574-1625), who was known for his nerve, loyalty and courage. The figure Van Obentraut is closely connected to the town of Seelze, where he died a heroic death and where a monument was erected in his honour. The work consists of four movements in which various aspects of this historical figure are featured. What is extra special about this work is the fact that its first movement (Hymn for a Hero) had been made available as an easy version for flexible band. This makes it possible for a youth or beginner band to play along with a band of adults or advanced players. This hymn can also be played as a separate piece.

Franz von Suppe was born Francesco Ezechiele Ermenegildo Cavaliere di Suppe-Demielli on April 18, 1819. His father and grandfather were both civil servants, and he was distant relative of Gaetano Donizetti. He displayed his talent at an early age when he began to compose music as a young boy, but despite this he received no encouragement from his father to pursue a career in music. He went on to compose many operas, most of which remain relatively obscure; however, the overtures to "Poet and Peasant" and "Light Cavalry" are well known and have been quite popular in transcriptions for concert band and widely used in movies and cartoons. Highly exuberant and spirited, Vienna Jubilation Overture contains all the thrilling elements that are evident in all of von Suppes remarkable overtures.
