Gentle Clouds Roll By - Donald Coakley

This lovely Chippewa lullaby was first collected on the western shores of the Great Lakes at the beginning of the twentieth century. The original "Way Way" text was obviously intended to gently lull a baby to sleep. Performing this work presents two opportunities. First, it presents the opportunity to perform with the school choir (or members of the band to sing the choral parts). Second, it also presents the option to work with the history department in the school when they are teaching about native peoples. Cross curriculum work is always popular and is of great benefit to students.

The Frog and the Crow - Jeff Smallman / arr. David Marlatt

This is a fun and light change of pace in a concert. The Frog and the Crow was originally a choral piece that was so popular, a band version was demanded. It is sub-titled "A Riverside Hoe-Down" and there are interesting parts for all. This tune is fun for both players and audiences.

    Infant King - Jeff Smallman

This jubilant piece was originally written as a choral piece with organ accompaniment. This work, while suitable for concerts at any time of the year, was composed to reflect the joy resulting from Christ's birth. This piece contains beautiful melodies, interesting chords, and a clever use of instrumental colours. These are elements that people have come to expect from this creative composer and Infant King does not disappoint. This work is a pleasure to listen to and is a nice change from the typical seasonal offerings.
