This attractive march by English composer Rob Bushnell was awarded 2nd Place in the Band and Bugles of The Rifles Composition Competition 2021. This published version of the march is the same as that entered in the competition, however, additional parts not required for the competition entry have been added to cover more of the standard concert band instrumentation. £79.17Temperamental (Concert Band) Fendall Hill
This work by Fendall Hill was the set test for the 2021 National Brass Band Championships of New Zealand, B Grade. Here it has been adapted for Concert Band. The composer writes: 'J.S. Bach (1685-1750) is deemed by many to be the 'Ulimate Composer'. He added an incredible proportion to the DNA of western music, and his influence is heard in the music of today. Like many artists, he was not overly recognised as a composer during his lifetime, and it took an 1829 performance of the St Matthew Passion by Mendelssohn to ignite a recognition of his place in the music world, a place he has maintained ever since. This piece starts with a similar spark of rediscovery of the music of Bach. It contains arrangements of various works, interspersed with composition based on Bach's chord structures, sections in the style of Bach, and original sections inspired by the moods created along the way. The first section explores the Toccata, and great organ works. This leads into an exploration of his choral works, and a finale based on the Preludes. The word 'Tempered' has different meanings, and all seem to apply to the music of Bach, and these appeal to the musical, engineering and spiritual aspects of my personal life. His music reaches to the humanity and divinity, it has strength, structure and order that creates frameworks in which incredible complexity reigns; and the complexity leads to a wildness, a kind of craziness that represents a range of human moods, and can change without warning. The same piece of music affects people in very different ways. I don't know if it's Bach's music, or us, but it can seem out of control and under control at the same time - the combination is highly temperamental. £67.30Caprice (Euphonium Solo with Concert Band) Andrew Batterham
VIEW SCORE PDF Caprice was written for Matthew van Emmerik, to showcase his virtuosity in an engaging piece of concert music. The work is in theme and variation form, with the primary material being the theme from the last of Paganini's Ventiquattro Capricci per violino solo, a collection of 24 caprices for solo violin. This theme has been the inspiration for similar works by many composers since it was first published, including Liszt, Brahms, Rachmaninov, Benny Goodman and Andrew Lloyd Webber. In this work, the famous theme is treated to a more contemporary approach. The first variation, Capricious, relies on motor rhythms and jagged dialogues between the soloist and the band. It is couched in an organic scale reminiscent of the Phrygian mode. The second variation, Sad, is in direct contrast, acting as a traditional ballad and allowing the soloist to explore the expressive side of the instrument. The third variation, Energetic, is a micro set of variations in itself, designed to display the soloist's innovative technique and stamina. Each section is more challenging than the last, until the work concludes with a whirlwind dance at breakneck speed. Like all of Batterham's recent work, the musical language of Caprice draws upon classical, jazz, funk and ska elements to create a unique sound where anything can happen, and probably will. American Prelude was commissioned by the United States Marine Band "The President's Own" and was composed in honour of the retirement of Colonel Jason K. Fettig, the 28th Director of the USMB. This short and energetic work features subtle hints to two of my favourite American composers, Aaron Copland and John Williams. Maneskin is an Italian rock band that first set foot on the international stage in 2021, when it won the 65th Eurovision Song Contest with Zitti e buoni. 2021 was an excellent year for the group in more ways than one, since they were also declared best rock band at the MTV European Music Awards. More successes followed: their cover of the Four Seasons song Beggin' became a worldwide hit and even reached the American Billboard Hot 100, as well as the global Spotify hit list. The band's name was definitively established with songs like I Wanna Be Your Slave, The Loneliest and Supermodel. Markus Schenk has brought together all of these hits in a fantastic pop-rock medley for concert band. Concordia was the Roman goddess of concord or unity. To convey the unity among their musicians, many music societies over the years, including the band that commissioned this composition, have chosen this name. The literal translation of Color Concordia is colour harmony. Consequently, the composer has gratefully used the many ranges of colouring of the concert band for the instrumentation of this work. He based the thematic material on the four note names in Concordia: C, C, D and A, resulting in a brilliant piece of music that will suit any band.Duration: 10.15

Bleak Forest is a piece for smaller concert bands and offers the musicians above all space to improve their sound and their effect playing. The technical requirements are therefore deliberately kept low. With this piece, the composer won the VLAMO International Composition Contest 2022.Thematically, the work is influenced by the composer's childhood memories. In his hometown there was a dark and mysterious forest, that seemed to the children in the small village to be magical. Without a reasonable explanation, every trip into the woods was exciting and somewhat terrifying. There were tales of dangerous animals, which can be heard at the beginning of the piece, as well as magical beasts. The magic of the forest is depicted musically from bar 70 in the andante section. The snapping of the fingers represents single raindrops. From bar 99 onwards, we hear the trek home, with the occasional moments of trepidation as the children spook each other with their fanciful tales. In the end, though, we arrive safely at home because after all, magical beasts only exist in fairy tales... don't they?Andreas Ziegelback studied music education at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg, and history at the Paris Lodron Universitat, Salzburg. In addition to his studies, he trained in ensemble conducting for wind orchestra with conductor and composer Thomas Doss. It was Doss who sparked Ziegelback's interest in composing. In 2021, Andreas Ziegelback completed his composition studies with Johannes Maria Staud. In 2020, he took part in a brass band composition masterclass in Bern with Oliver Waespi, followed by a premiere by the Swiss Army Brass Band.Duration: 6.00

Robin Hoffmann, born 1984, studied composition and arranging at the Dresden College of Music. Since 2006, he has worked as composer, orchestrator and arranger for international film and concert productions. In 2010, the London Symphony Orchestra recorded his violin concerto at Abbey Road studios. His film music for Hero and A Father's Job won numerous international prizes. Lord of the Lake is a work in three separate movements which tells the legend of the Sea of Flines. Stphane Coquet, the conductor of the Flines-lez-Raches concert band, wanted to celebrate the 140th anniversary of his band by commissioning this work.
