Icicles (from When Icicles Hang) (Concert Band with Optional Choir - Score and Parts) - Rutter, John - Noble, Paul
John Rutter received an early commission for a piece of music that was seasonal for winter, though not necessarily linked to the Christian traditions of Christmas, in the early '70s. The request came from his friend Russell Burgess, a well-known conductor in the English musical scene and head of the Wandsworth School Boys' Choir through the '60s and '70s. Rutter responded with a six-movement work for orchestra, boys' choir, and mixed chorus, called When Icicles Hang. He chose his texts, characteristically, from Elizabethan and other early English poetry, each text dealing with images from the wintery season, be they the cold, ice-bound landscape and its winds; an older man's weariness in the face of the season; or the contrapuntal pleasures of ale and honey love for those safely inside on winter nights. The movements are: I. Icicles; II. Winter Nights; III Good Ale; IV Blow, blow, thou winter winds; V. Winter wakeneth all my care; VI . Hay, ay. With sparkling orchestration which has been faithfully set for Concert/Wind Band, the work may be performed with chorus as originally written, or may be performed effectively by band alone. The work is available as a complete set of six movements, or each movement may be purchased and performed individually.

Jerusalem the Blessed (from Visions) (Flute or Violin Solo with Concert Band and Optional Treble Choir - Score and Parts) - Rutter, John - Noble, Paul
Visions is one of John Rutter's most recent compositions (2016). It was written for violin solo, treble voice choir, strings and harp. This arrangement maintains the violin solo as an option, but it is presented as a flute (and optionally with a movement for alto flute) solo with band. The vocal parts are included as an option, but the arrangement is also scored so that it may be performed without the treble choir. Visions is a tribute to Jerusalem, with the four movements titled: 1. Jerusalem the blessed; 2. Arise, shine; 3. Lament for Jerusalem; 4. Finale: The holy city. A showcase for the soloist, the depth of meaning and feeling in this music will make it an important addition to the repertoire of the Concert/Wind Band.

Khvarena - The City of Light (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Mau, Alga
Khvarenah: The city of light is Alga's second wind orchestra piece. Written in 2015 for a competition held by the Abingdon Concert Band in Oxfordshire, UK, it tries to capture the spirit of 'Khvarenah', an Avestan word for the Zoroastrian concept of 'royal glory' and 'splendour'. It opens with a quiet, steady layering of woodwind and brass, depicting an ancient desert city in the vast lands as the sun emerges from the horizon. We are then taken through the bazaars of the city as the markets are filled with joyful shouting and music and dance before entering the central courtyards, the royal army saluting their newly crowned king, heralding in a new era of glory.

Portsmouth Point (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Walton, William - Noble, Paul
Portsmouth Point is an overture originally composed in 1925 for orchestra by the English composer William Walton. The work was inspired by the well-known painting depicting Portsmouth Point by Thomas Rowlandson. Portsmouth Point depicts in musical form the rumbustious life of British 18th century sailors. Commentators have noted the influence of Igor Stravinsky's music and of jazz in the rhythms of the score, as well as the rhythm of the Catalan sardana dance. This arrangement brings a challenging addition to the repertoire of the Concert/Wind Band, with its pointillistic rhythm and dissonances, somewhat typical of Walton in this period of his life.
