Red River - Rob Wiffin
Red River is a piece full of raw energy. The title is about the feeling engendered by the name rather than a reference to a specific place. In the composer's mind it is a river coloured red by the dust of the earth in a hot, sun-drenched landscape. Full of fiery rhythmic drive and syncopation carried along by Latin percussion, performers will enjoy the vigour and verve of the music.Suitable for intermediate level (Grade 3/4) symphonic wind band.

1812 Overture - Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky / arr. Mark Williams
This powerful arrangement makes one of Tchaikovsky's most popular and dramatic orchestral works accessible for grade 3 concert bands. The expressive chorale that opens the work has been reworked for brass and bass clarinet, and its dramatic restatement near the end of the piece has been transposed down a perfect fourth so your trumpets will ring through right to the end. Mark Williams also offers some creative alternatives to achieve the cannon sounds. Close your next concert with this all-time classic!

Be Thou My Vision
Instrumentation rather than difficulty makes this work a grade 3. Jeremy Martin's arrangement of is ideal for memorial services or just for that spot at your concert where you want the beauty of the concert band sound to transfix your audience. Careful attention to doublings can allow bands with less than ideal instrumentation the opportunity to perform this sublime work. (2:00)
