£149.99Suite Provenale - Jan Van der Roost
This 4-movement suite is based on authentic folktunes from the beautiful southern province in France: the "Provence". The composer used an harmonic language respecting the popular characteristics, but on the other hand also contains some "spicy" notes (... just like the wellknown "Provenal sauce"! ...). The instrumentation is very colourful, paying a lot of attention to the different timbres of both brass and wood winds as well as to the percussion section.Every movement has its own character: "Un Ange a fa la crido" (= An angel brought the creed / credo) is like a bourre, "Adam e sa Coumpagnou" (= Adam and his companion) is an old love song, "Lou Fusti" (= the carpenter)a fast dance and finally "Lis Escoubo" (= a whistle tune / popular ballad) is a farandole. In the latter, the old tradition of folk musicians who play a whistle with one hand and a drum with the other hand, is clearly represented during the first presentations of the one and only theme)Although this piece is not too demanding, a well balanced band is necessary to perform it successfully. Thanks to the contrasts and the varying colours, it keeps on holding the attention.

Iedereen, kind of ouder, kent (nog) wel het gevoel van het bijwonen van een poppenkast voorstelling. Of de hoofdpersonen nu Kaspar en Grete (Duitsland) of Pulcinella (Itali?) heten, Petrushka (Rusland) of Jan Klaassen en Katrijn (Nederland), er doen zich altijd humoristische, spannende en hilarische taferelen voor. De oerpersonage is Pulcinella, waarin het woord 'pulcino' (kuikentje) te herkennen is. Hij heeft dan ook een snavelvormige neus, een hanige tred en een kwakende stem. In Engeland heten de hoofdpersonen Punch and Judy. Punch stapt onbekommerd door het leven maar vindt samen met zijn Judy spanning en verdriet op zijn pad. De kwakende stem van Punch is duidelijk te horen door het gebruik van de 'kazoo'. Hun leven kent verrassende wendingen. Dat is te horen in een 'slapstick'-achtig gedeelte aan het slot, van deze voor alle leeftijden geschikte voorstelling. 04:15

Boreas Wind Band Set (Score & Parts)
In Greek mythology, Boreas is the God of the North Wind. When thinking of the north wind we particularly think of the bleak wind coming from the freezing cold north, but in Homers' work we see a more varied picture. As shown in the following two stories, Boreas often does play the role of a storm wind that blows forth heavy dark clouds while whipping up the dark waves of the tempestuous sea to mountainous heights. When the stake of the fallen Patroclos refuses to burn, Achilles begs for some wind. When Iris, the swift messenger of the Gods, asks the winds for assistance, they raise themselves up with tremendous roaring and rush to Troy. Upon their arrival they blow the divine fire of Patroclos' stake far up into the sky. When Troy was destroyed, the Greeks returned home. After many wanderings, Odysseus, however, ends up with the beautiful nymph, Calypso, who keeps him as a prisoner. As ordered by Zeus, Calypso frees him and sends him off on a handmade wooden raft. At sea, Odysseus is threatened by the aggressive sea god, Poseidon, who stirs up the winds and thrashes the waves with his trident. The goddess, Athena, stems the violence of all the winds except for the north wind, and thus it is Boreas, who sends Odysseus to the land of the hospitable Phaiakes. Jan Bosveld composed Boreas for OLTO, a music association in Loenen, The Netherlands, for which he had served as conductor for many years. Turbulent movement in both tempo and dynamics characterize this composition. The result is a whirling piece that races by in a positive manner. Boreas is in de Griekse mythologie de god van de noordenwind. Bij noordenwind denken wij vooral aan de gure wind uit het ijskoude noorden, bij Homerus echter zien we een meer gevari?erd beeld. Natuurlijk speelt Boreas, zoals uit de twee onderstaande verhalen blijkt, meestal de rol van de stormwind die de zware zwarte wolken voor zich uit blaast en de donkere golven van de onstuimige zee torenhoog opzwiept. 05:00

Concerto for Trombone Wind Band Set (Score & Parts)
Concerto for Trombone" was written especially for J?rgen van Rijen, the solo trombonist of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra Amsterdam. It is a composition without a story, consisting of four overlapping parts. The solo part was not written for J?rgen van Rijen technical skills, but rather for his expressive technique in the higher registers. According to Jan Bosveld, J?rgen van Rijen has additional merits that distinguish him from all other trombonists. "Concerto for Trombone" was premiered at the International Music Festival in Saas-Fee, Switzerland.The Repr?sentations Orchester des Schweizer Armeespiel, conducted by Christopher Walter, accompanied him. This composition was made financially possible by the Music Lending and Information Centre (MUI), department of the library for the province of Gelderland in Arnhem, The Netherlands. This short but solemn overture was written on the occasion of the 110th jubilee of Harmonie Hautcharage, Luxembourg. It is an homage to Jean-Paul Frisch and his son Gerard (the present conductor), who each have been conducting the ensemble for many years. Under their leadership, the band has developed and improved remarkably. The very first musical theme, presented during the introduction of this little overture, is based on the letters hidden in the names Jean-Paul and Gerard Frisch (in which h is considered b - as it is in German), thus aiming the spotlight on both key figures in the history of Harmonie Hautcharage. After the rather stately intro, the allegro is more joyful and lighthearted, thus depicting the optimism of the many young players of the band. The end is exciting and energetic: it radiates positivity and belief in the future. Duration: 5.30

The Greek word hypernikon roughly translates as More Than Conquerors, the motto of Gordon College in Wenham, Massachusetts, the commissioner of this piece. The work is inspired by David Rox's very own name, the first two letters of his name, D and A, sets the first theme is in D major, with these notes being the tonic and dominant of the scale. After the stately intrada, the tempo accelerates and the festive feel of the march emerges. The trio melody serves as a beautiful contrast before finally ending with the opening theme in a grand tutti.Duration: 3.45
