The second presentation features the trumpets and xylophone followed by a statement in the bass instruments while the melody "Long, Long Ago" appears in the upper voices. A contrasting legato section follows, succeeded by a more rhythmic statement in woodwinds and trumpets. The melody then appears in the alto saxophones with a contrasting idea in upper woodwinds. A marcato statement of the melody appears as a three-bar phrase with a staccato accompaniment. The final section utilises the style of the opening measures and is expanded to bring the work to a final climactic conclusion.Duration: 2.30

He remained positive throughout the many months of treatments and had strong hopes of being cured. He was a vivacious boy who loved sports, the outdoors, and playing the trumpet in band. He was also an excellent student. He was looking forward to joining his high school band with his older sister, Beth, and his friends. However, the cancer continued to spread and at the age of 14, Zach passed away. He fought his cancer with faith, compassion, and an attitude to never give up, and his steadfast optimism left an indelible impression on all who knew him.Duration: 6.00

Air and Variations is designed to expose students to the variation form through the use of contrasting styles, tempi and meters. The work opens with a statement of the theme presented by flute, clarinet and trumpet in legato, lyric style. Variation 1 is a toccata featuring marcato eighth notes, providing a rhythmic version of the theme. Variation 2 is a romance with the theme presented in a slow, expressive setting. Variation 3 is a gently lilting waltz with the theme appearing in flutes and trumpets. Variation 4 is a stately, triumphant processional-style march which provides the conclusion of the work. "Wonderful! But, aren't there too many notes?" asked the emperor Joseph II. "No, all notes are necessary. This is new music," replied Mozart. This is a famous anecdote about the premiere of the opera Die Entfuhrung aus dem Serail (The Abduction from the Seraglio), which took place on July 16, 1782 at the Burgtheater Wien (Vienna). It illustrates Mozart's ambition and self-confidence. Throughout Mozart's lifetime, Die Entfhrung aus dem Serail was his most successful work outside of Vienna. It is still a much-performed opera. Tohru Takahashi has made a lively arrangement of the overture in its original key, C major. It will sound even better if your band has Turkish percussion instruments at its disposal.Duration: 6.15
