£121.00Metro Dances - Travis J. Weller
Driving in Pittsburgh involves a fair amount of vehicular "dancing" in that theres rarely a direct route to get where you want to go. Metro Dances is a work in five sections about this driving experience. Hit the Gas! starts with a full cup of coffee and just a little less time than normal to reach our destination. Traffic "Jam" abruptly comes out of nowhere in true Pittsburgh fashion. Big Trucks appear, appropriately represented with important material for the lower winds. Next is Rush Hour, which features an optional open section with suggested solos for trumpet and alto sax. Finally, Breaking Free culminates with a brisk finish as traffic opens up and there's smooth sailing on a free and open highway.

£122.50Brilliant Beatles - Peter Kleine Schaars
There have been many arrangements of Beatles' songs for various kinds of ensembles, so rather than just producing a further medley of Beatles' hits, Peter Kleine Schaars has added a new twist to them with this excellent new work. All You Need Is Love and With a Little Help from my Friends pass by in a swing march, Michelle sounds like a newly composed ballad and When I'm Sixty Four is played in Dixie swing style. A Hard Day's Night is transformed into a funk theme with a samba interlude, Let It Be into a slow march, and Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da in a rock beat. Experience The Beatles as you have never heard them before.

£53.95Monsters, Unite! - Kelly Dugger
Monsters, Unite! by Kelly Dugger is a fun beginning band piece that is sure to be a hit, not only at Halloween time but all year round. Monsters all around the world are waking up to a calling to unite. Some are big, hairy creatures, and others are delicate and fairy-like. They walk and fly long distances to find each other. In the end, they all come together, marching as one. Just when you think they've marched off into the distance, they come together to surprise the audience. Unique percussion effects---timpani glissando and theremin (or flexatone)---add to the spooky sound. A tuba solo at the end is followed by a surprising scream that will leave the performers and the audience giggling!

£152.99Centennial Salute - Philip Sparke
Just based on its title, this piece has to be celebratory and up-beat, which it is! It opens with a stately fanfare, first played on the low brass before the entire band joins in. This gives way to a contrasting lyrical theme which develops until it joins up with the fanfare to complete the opening section. A lively and heavily syncopated vivo follows, cast as a traditional march, complete with a 'bass strain' and trio. After the original march theme returns, a climax leads back to a reprise of the majestic opening, which brings the piece to an appropriately triumphant close.

The Untouchables - Ennio Morricone
This film dating back to 1987 by star director Brian De Palma is equally famous as the cast that plays in it. Sean Connery, Kevin Costner and Robert De Niro are just a few of the names that gave this film its cult status. Ennio Morricone, an icon of the movieindustry, wrote the music and Willy Fransen has now made a spectacular and original arrangement which remains true to theoriginal. He selected the strongest themes and chose a colourful but compact instrumentation. Get ready for the movie experience!

£89.99Yellowstone Choral - Filip Ceunen
Yellowstone Choral was inspired by the marvellous landscapes of the Yellowstone National Park in the United States. The choral comprises three choral phrases that alternate throughout the work. The beginning is lightly orchestrated, with an oboe solo, but more instruments gradually join in before the second phrase of the choral is introduced. The third phrase does not appear so quickly and when it does it is introduced by horns and trombones before building up to the climax of the choral, where the trumpet takes the upper hand. After this the choral gradually fades away, with the first and second phrases appearing just a few more times. The choral ends as it began, with a slowly ebbing orchestration.

£72.99Viva Massima - Eiji Suzuki
I wrote this in "Mashima-mode" dedicated to and celebrating the eminent Japanese composer Toshio Mashima's 60th birthday. The piece incorporates various familiar styles, melodies and nuances of the Popstage series. It is ideal as a closing piece or encore to finish a concert brilliantly! Effective use of Latin percussion is essential for good momentum. Don't be afraid to play bright and full. Massima is Italian for "peak" or "maximum", no special meaning, just word-play on the name Mashima. (Eiji Suzuki)

Scale Studies for Band - James Curnow
An important part of our Essentials of Musicianship Series, Scale Studies for Band is designed to be used as an instructional aid during your normal daily practice. Written so that the scale studies can be interlaced at appropriate times into your rehearsal, they enable you to address the scale and key considerations of your next piece just before starting that piece. For instance, if the next arrangement you will rehearse has a section in the key of G Major, you can take a moment and review the study in that key (Study Number 7). It's amazing how many wrong notes can be avoided by reviewing the key signature in an interesting and exciting manner, before diving into theperformance piece rehearsal. In the long run, this "key signature review" approach can actually save more rehearsal time than it uses. In addition to the full band aspect of Scale Studies, you may find value in quickly and easily administered "playing tests" using these materials. However you choose to use them, the Scale Studies from the Curnow Music Press Essentials of Musicianship Series will be valuable indeed!
