Wilten Festival Overture - Philip Sparke
To celebrate the 350th anniversary of the Stadtmusikkapelle Wilten in Innsbruck Philip Sparke composed Wilten Festival Overture. A bold fanfare, led by the horns, forms the opening of the work from which an expressive theme unfolds until the full band reaches a climax. Short solo statements from saxophone, horn and trumpet lead to a recapitulation of this theme which melts into a rhythmic Vivo. A robust melody is is then played by the clarinets and taken up by the whole band before a legato figure leads to a cantabile theme, again presented by the clarinets. The original Vivo melody reappears before the opening fanfare is briefly heard and the work comes to an end with ashort Coda. A great experience for the whole band!

Old Hundredth - Louis Bourgeois
The tune Old Hundredth is one of the best-known melodies in all Christian musical traditions and first appeared in the 1551 psalter "Pseaumes Octante Trois de David", where it is used as a setting for a version of Psalm 134; it is usually attributed to the French composer Louis Bourgeois (c.1510 - c.1560). The melody was then used in 1561 by the Scots clergyman, William Kethe in Sternhold and Hopkins' Psalter for his paraphrase of Psalm 100 - All People that on Earth do Dwell, which is still the most familiar hymn sung to this noble tune. When Tate and Brady's "New Version of the Psalms" was published in 1696, the melody became know as the 'old' version - henceits current title. This arrangement presents three contrasting verses and is effective as a concert piece as well as an instrumental interlude as part of a church service or wedding.

Intrada and Episode - R. Foster
A brilliant opening fanfare by trumpets and trom bones is followed by the primary melody utilizing the low brass and low woodwinds as melodic instruments. This melody, in different forms and voicings, alternatives with the fanfare throughout, providing harmonic, rhythmic, and orchestration variety that is refreshing, and somewhat unusual in a work which is playable by young bands of even limited instrumentation.

Dulcinea (Symphony No. 3, 'Don Quixote,' Mvt. 2) - Robert W. Smith
The second of four movements in Robert W. Smith's epic work, Dulcinea tells the tale of Don Quixote's adoration of the ideal woman. Written in a sultry 5/4 tango, the audience will hear the haunting melody and feel the passion of Cervantes' knight-errant as he proclaims his love for Dulcinea de Tobosa. Featuring an English horn solo that is liberally cross-cued throughout, the initial melody gives way to the most powerful of statements before returning to the tango in a quiet, yet startling ending.

Goin' Home - Antonin Dvorak
Antonin Dvorak first premiered his "New World Symphony" at Carnegie Hall in December of 1893 with the goal to bring American musical sensibility to European classical music. The second movement, labeled Largo, contained the melody that would later be identified as "Goin' Home." This well-crafted adaptation of that beautiful melody for concert band contains all the elements of the original orchestral version that has moved orchestral concert patrons for over a century. Expert scoring and careful orchestration techniques will ensure success with all ensembles. We think this outstanding arrangement will become a concert band classic for many years to come. Our highest recommendation!
