£116.40First Appearance - Manfred Schneider
The German composer Manfred Schneider (Kestert am Rhein, 1953) played French horn in the Military Band of the German Army at Koblenz. He added several fine compositions to the contemporary original wind band repertoire. Since the very popular 'Upside Down', quite a number of interesting compositions by Schneider were published by Molenaar Edition, such as this work 'First Appearance' a most pleasant slightly swinging slow.

£38.20Persian March - Johann Strauss
Among the some 1500 compositions by Johann Strauss Sr. and his three sons there are some 70 marches, 45 of them written by Johann Strauss Jr. He composed military marches, marches for students and even a revolutionary march. Besides several exotic sounding concert marches, such as the Russian March, the Egyptian March, the Serbian March and the Spanish March Johann Strauss Son also wrote a Persian March: 'Persischer Marsch' opus 289. Originally the march was called 'Persischer Armeemarsch' (Persian Army March) and was written for the Shah of Persia, Nasir Ed-Dir in 1856. The composer made a first revision for a concert in the Vienna 'Volksgarten' (Popular Garden) in 1864 and a second for a concert in Pavlovsk, Russia in 1869. It is a march with an oriental sound in which the composer tried to recreate some exotic sonorities; he did not use any real Persian theme, but only tried to suggest the Persian atmosphere in his own style.

£76.80Teabreak for Band - David Jackson
In everyday life in Great Britain 'tea-time' plays a rather important role and this is what Jackson tried to suggest in this original wind band composition. Jackson was born in 1957 and graduated from the 'Kneller Hall' military school of music where he studied the oboe, the saxophone, arranging and composing for band. In 1976 he joined the army as a musician with the 'Alamein Staff Band of the Royal Tank Regiment'. He actually conducts several wind bands. We already published his succesful band piece 'Sun-Tan' and here is a new piece that adds some British 'flavour' to the wind band repertoire.

£52.70Zig-Zag Rock - Terry Kenny
The British composer and ex military band conductor Terry Kenny got an excellent reputation as director of music of the Royal Corps of Transport Band with which he made a series of fine recordings. Since many years, Molenaar Edition publishes quite regularly new compositions and arrangements by Terry Kenny and they boast a lot of success. You certainly know Bandscape, Bee Cee Bee Gee, For Susanna, Huntsman Holiday, L'Heure Bleue, Our Man in Paris, Prima La Musica, Un Poco Loco and the pretty Suite on Russian Dances, just to mention a few. This time, Kenny wrote a short, fanciful rock piece which he gave the most appropriate name Zig-Zag Rock. Both musicians and audiences will like it.

Heroes of the Air (Bravos do Ar) is a musical work that was written to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the Military Aviation in Portugal. It was premiered on May 14, 2014 at the opening ceremony for the occasion of the inauguration of the evocative monument at Air Base n.1, Sintra. The author imbued by the spirit of the pioneers of Portuguese aviation, builds this work with elements where the bravery, courage, and perseverance mark the character of this festive fanfare.

£78.20Farewell - Eric Swiggers
Farewell was composed at the farewell of Fanfare Trompetterkorps Der Cavalerie in 1993. The work is based on 2 of the most famous tattoo signals in military music: "Reveille" and "Tattoo." Farewell opens festively with blasting trumpets and then continues with a somewhat melancholy melody based on the reveille theme. After interweaving all the signals and themes in the work's climax, the work ends quietly, with "in the distance" a lone trumpet playing the tattoo signal....

£38.20Aartshertog Albrecht - Karel Komzak
Karl Komzak Jr. (1850-1905), son of Karl I and father of Karl III was the most famous member of an illustrious family of Austrian military bandmasters. Karel II composed over 300 works among which 65 marches, 81 polkas and 21 waltzes. His waltz 'Badner Madln' is world-famous. Some of his marches, such as '84er Regiments Marsch' and 'Vindobona' are still famous, but the most popular is 'Erzherzog Albrecht' march. It was composed for the 70th birthday of the Austrian Field Marshall Archduke Albert in 1887. It became the parade march of the 9th Dragoon Regiment and the 5th Artillery Regiment in Austria.

£38.20Under the Double Eagle - J.F. Wagner
The Austrian military bandmaster Josef Franz Wagner (1856-1908) used to be called the 'Austrian March King'. He wrote some 400 compositions, 250 of which have been published. Among his well-known marches we mention 'Tiroler Holzhacker Buab'n', 'Erzherzog Johann Jodler', 'Wiener Brger', '47er Regimentsmarsch' and, of course, 'Unter dem Doppeladler' (Under the Double Eagle) opus 19. The title of this immortal march refers to the double eagle in the coat of arms of the Austro-Hungarian double monarchy. The march became so popular that it was recorded thrice by the Sousa-band before J.F.Wagner died at the age of 52. It became the official regimental march of the 1st Austrian Artillery Regiment Number 2.

£38.20Hoch und Deutschmeister Marsch - D. Ertl
Dominik Ertl (1857-1911) was subsequently musician, drum major and assistant conductor with the Band of the Austrian Infantry Regiment Number 4, better known as the 'Hoch-und Deutschmeister Regiment'. He was very popular in the fashionable Vienna high society of the last decades of the nineteenth century. He left the army to tour all over Europe with his own orchestra. He composed some ten marches but only the 'Hoch- und Deutschmeister' march became internationally famous. It is of course dedicated to the illustrious regiment and, though considered as the most musical of all Austrian military marches, it never became the official regimental march.
