Grandeur and Glory is one of those pieces that suits those occasions when pomp and circumstance is required. It starts and ends with a slow-building fanfare in the style of Handel's Zadok the Priest. This short processional was designed to be played as a concert opener but can equally be used as a sort of extended fanfare at presentations, graduation ceremonies and similar occasions. Its title evokes the noble grandeur of the university buildings in the English town of Cambridge where pomp and circumstance are still a normal part of life. A fanfare-like passage opens and closes the work and sandwiches a more legato central section.Duration: 1:15

Written in 1942 to a commission by the BBC the march was first performance in its original version in the Proms Concert Series at the Royal albert Hall. Unusually for a wind band piece there is an optional organ part, taken from Irelands original orchestral score.
