Winds of Change (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Standridge, Randall D.
In recent years, Oklahoma has seen a great increase in the development of wind energy. This development in sustainable energy sources and the winds that flow across the great state serve as the inspiration for this composition. The piece begins by depicting the great open spaces that stretch for miles across the Oklahoma landscape. Small gusts of wind (represented by scalar and arpeggiated passages in the mallets and woodwinds) dance across the landscape. The piece picks up pace as the wind races across the land, turning the turbines and charging towards the future.Duration: 5:30

Celestial Prospect (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Heaton, Wilfred - Wheeler, Alastair
Wilfred Heaton's compositions have a worldwide appreciation and although his output was small it is work of the highest integrity and calibre. The history surrounding 'Celestial Prospect' is somewhat sketchy. The composer describes it as a 're-casting' of an earlier work written sometime in the 1940's the score of which is now lost. The theme 'Come comrades dear' has been known from Christian Mission days and reflects the composer's penchant for old Salvation Army tunes which are simple and direct in character. The following 5 variations contain much interest and originality including a beautiful 'elegy to departed comrades.

The Gentle Aire (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Milner, Barry
The Aire River in northern England is typically known for its picturesque settings. Although it runs through several major cities, a majority of the Aire winds its way though rolling hills and small towns, and is known as a tourist attraction for many villages in England. The gentle, calm, and modal nature of the melody in this charming piece is meant to evoke imagery of the Aire River flowing though country sides of Yorkshire.Duration: 2:00

Walzerzauber (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Watz, Franz
The genre operetta (literally meaning 'small opera') originated halfway through the 19th century, as an antidote to the ever-lengthening opra comique, which by that time contained more and more tragic intrigues as well. In this charming work, three waltz melodies from different operettas come together. First, we hear 'Lippen schweigen' from Die lustige Witwe (The Merry Widow) by Franz Lhar (1870-1948). Then follows 'Ja, das alles auf Ehr' from Der Zigeunerbaron (The Gypsy Baron) by Johann Strauss the younger (1825-1899), after which 'Tanzen mchte ich' from Die Czardasfrstin by Emmerich Klmn (1882-1953) closes the medley in a cheerful way. Franz Watz has skilfully connected the waltzes to become a magical whole.Duration: 4:30

A Jamestown Trilogy (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Fagan, Gary
A Jamestown Trilogy is a three-movement suite inspired by the story of Captain John Smith and his crew, who sailed from England on December 20, 1606 in three small ships, the Discovery, Susan Constant and Godspeed. They first landed at Cape Henry on April 26, 1607 and then sailed up the James River where, on May 14, 1607, they landed on a site they named Jamestown. In 1608, Smith was captured by the Powhatan Indians. Legend has it that he was considered a threat to the Indians because of his interest in metals and in searching for a waterway west. Smith was sentenced to death and placed on a stone alter to be killed when a twelve year old Indian Princess rescued him. Matoaka, nicknamed Pocahontas (Playful One), the daughter of Powhatan, chief of the confederacy, threw her body across Smith's and saved his life.Duration: 5.30

The Swords of Stavanger (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Sheldon, Robert
The unification of the Viking tribes is of great significance to the people living in the southwest region of Norway. The International School of Stavanger lies only one kilometre from a small fjord called Hafrsfjord where a monument, Swords in Stone, was constructed consisting of three large bronze swords stuck in an outcropping on the shore. The monument commemorates a battle which unified the Viking tribes of Norway under one king, Harald Hrfagre, or Harald the Fairhaired. According to legend, in 872 Harald invited the other tribal leaders to a meeting, then had his boats cut off their retreat and they battled until the other leaders submitted to Harald's rule. Harald then became the first king of Norway. The Swords of Stavanger seeks to provide a musical backdrop to this legend of Viking heroism and conquest.Duration: 3.45
