Let the Amen Sound (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Cross, Travis J.

Commissioned by the distinguished Northshore Concert Band under the direction of Mallory Thompson, Let the Amen Sound is based on Joachim Neander's 17th-century chorale "Lobe den Herren," known in English as "Praise to the Lord." The hymn tune is stated first by a solo flute, accompanied by percussion and muted trumpets, evoking the sound of liturgical bells. Three variations follow that represent important milestones common to human existence - the playful exuberance of childhood, the sentimental dance of youth, and the triumphant celebration of lives well lived. A dramatic and rewarding addition to the wind band repertoire. Duration: 7:00

Clarinet Concerto (Clarinet Solo with Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Sparke, Philip

Clarinet soloist Linda Merrick is a long-time friend of the composer Philip Sparke and is married to fellow composer, Martin Ellerby. As part of a dynamic and forward-looking PhD thesis on works for clarinet and concert band, Linda has researched the existing repertoire in addition to commissioning several new concerti from leading British composers, including Martin Ellerby and Nigel Clarke. The original concept was for a suite of short movements, each with its own character, but by the time the first movement was complete, it was clear that a conventional three-movement format was going to work out better. The opening movement contains much syncopation and is almost rag-like in style. The slower second movement explores initially the chalumeau register of the clarinet in a theme that is later taken up by the band whilst the soloist weaves a filigree descant. This leads straight into the third movement, which is almost bee-bop in style and shows off the jazzier side of the clarinet.Duration: 14.00

The White Rose (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Sparke, Philip

The White Rose was commissioned by the White Rose Concert Band from Harrogate, England. The band takes its name from the county symbol of Yorkshire, the white rose. This partly rhythmic, party lyrical piece opens with a flourish from the trumpets. Following a rhythmic melody in the clarinets there are solo passages for flute and trumpet leading to the finale which brings together elements of the whole piece.Duration: 7:30

Rhapsody in Blue (Piano Feature with Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Gershwin, George - Hunsberger, Donald

The wind accompaniment to George Gershwin's popular piano solo, Rhapsody in Blue, is based upon the 1924 and 1926 Grofe editions for jazz band and theatre orchestra. Donald Hunsberger has scored this edition for 23 players which produces a leaner and more muscular version to serve as a companion to Thomas Verrier's setting for full concert band or wind ensemble.Duration: 17:30

Milonga del Angel (Clarinet, Soprano Saxophone and Trombone Trio with Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Piazzolla, Astor - Olsrud, Sverre Stakston

This arrangement was made after hearing Astor Piazzolla s 1986 recording of his own work written in 1965. The original instrumentation of bandoneon, violin and string bass is here arranged for three wind soloists with Concert Band. The Soprano Sax is the main soloist (filling the bandoneon role), while the trombone and clarinet shares the violin part as a kind of flirting undertone to the soprano saxophone. It s not possible to make a 100% correct notation of the solo parts, so it s recommended to listen to the record album Zero Hour from 1986 to get the best impression of the work. Enjoy Milonga Del Angel and imagine a small, dark cafe in Buenos Aires!

I Shall Love But Thee (Vocal Solo (Soprano) with Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Van der Roost, Jan

I Shall Love But Thee is an occasional work in the literal sense of the word, since it was originally written on the occasion of the composer's youngest son's wedding. The texts, by William Shakespeare, inspired Jan Van der Roost to compose profound and appealing music, largely in the style of Henry Purcell (in the first part) and Georg Friedrich Handel (in the second part)--although no literal quotations have been used. The rather rare combination of soprano and concert band makes this piece a unique addition to the repertoire! Duration: 10.30
