Night Song (Homage Howard Hanson) for Euphonium and Wind Ensemble - Ron Nelson

Night Song, resolutely melodic and romantic solo for euphonium, was written in homage to Howard Hanson, with whom the Composer studies during the years he attended the Eastman School of Music. Dr. Hanson's genius was to create an environment where students couldn't wait to write something for the next class. He was a mentor and a source of inspiration. Versions with wind ensemble and piano accompaniments are available from the publisher.

The Fall of Troy - Ryan Meeboer

The legend of the great city of Troy varies depending on historical or fictional belief. This city was the location of the long lasting Trojan Wars, between the people of Troy and the Greeks. The fall of Troy is probably most accredited to the Greek's plan to build the Trojan Horse, use it to sneak inside cities walls, and defeat Troy's army while they slept. This story comes alive in music with fanfares, a sweeping lyrical section and the aggressive attack on the Troy. Fun to play and fun to listen to, there is something great to play in each part.

North Shore Overture - David Marlatt

North Shore Boulevard is a street in Burlington, Canada near where settlers landed their ships and established their family roots in the early 1800s. Times were tough but so were they. This piece is split into sections depicting the people and the events that occurred at that time. Full of character and interesting rhythms, this unique overture would work equally well for concert or contest use. This is a great piece to expose developing players to lots of syncopation and some "extra flat notes" not commonly used for music at this level. North Shore Overture is an excellent end of year piece or something to start off a higher level band as their first piece of the year. (2:25)
