Geuzen Medal Fanfare (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - De Haan, Jan
The Geuzen Medal is an annual award given to people or organisations who have found unique ways to further democracy in the world and help eliminate dictatorships, racism, and discrimination. The original Geuzen fought against Spanish imperialism in Holland during the 16th century. During the Second World War a group resisting the Nazis also named themselves De Geuzen. Jan de Haan incorporates Psalm 43, sung by a group of condemned prisoners shortly before their execution in 1943, into Geuzen Medal Fanfare, composed for the 25th bestowal of this special award.Duration: 5:00

The Barber of Seville Goes to the Devil (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Jacob, Gordon - Noble, Paul
Gordon Jacob (1895-1984), one of Malcolm Arnold's teachers at the Royal College of Music, was represented in the first Hoffnung. This rumbustious parody of Rossini's style was composed in 1960 for the BBC Concert Orchestra, which introduced it under Vilm Tausky in a broadcast concert that year. (Tausky added the opening bars, in fact, with the composer's approval, which are included in this arrangement.) The piece is a no-holds-barred workout on familiar material such as could be brought off only by a certified master of the modern orchestra with a free-wheeling imaginativeness to match his/her technical skill. Concert Bands and their audiences will get in on the fun of this rousing parody, exploring everything from a Spanish dance to a Street parade.

Awake the Iron (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Watson, Scott
Desperta Ferro!, or "Awake the iron!" was the battle cry of Medieval Spanish soldiers called the Almogavars. In the dim light of dawn, as they prepared for battle, these fierce soldiers would beat their swords on rocks shouting this phrase. The sparks that flew from the rocks in the eerie light of dawn, together with the soldier's call to arms, would give any enemy pause. Awake the Iron, with its insistent unisons, energetic rhythms, modal themes, and powerful percussive writing, mirrors the ferocious intensity of the medieval battlefield. This mature sounding, yet approachable work, is sure to be a favourite of both the musicians and audience.Duration: 3.30
