Dublin Pictures (Concert Band - Score and Parts)
Ireland is a multi-faceted country that has developed a popular and distinctive musical culture. The first movement of Dublin Pictures reflects Irish festivals where there is dancing and traditional beer flowing. More tranquil in its feel, the second movement illustrates the landscape that can be seen from the Ha'penny Bridge, a bridge that crosses the River Liffey in Dublin. This movement highlights the wide range of the orchestra's sound colours as the musicians' voices combine with the wind and percussion to accompany the soloist. The lively and joyful rhythms of the last movement take the listener to Temple Bar, the famous tourist quarter of the city, well known for its vibrant nightlife. The music's energy and virtuosic motifs are in contrast to the previous movement and provide a spirited and festive finale.Marc Jeanbourquin wrote this piece in three movements for Azimuts Brass in 2011. He then arranged it for Concert, Fanfare or Brass Band 07:45

£204.00Reflections - Suite on a Norwegian Folk Tune - John Brakstad
The suite is constructed around a Norwegian folk tune. The melody is called "Dark Forebodings", and the words of the song revolve around thoughts and reflections on a future that can take unexpected, insecure, or perhaps dramatic and tragic turns.This is essentially a sad song with a beautiful melody. The folk tune itself is presented in the 2nd movement. In the 1st movement, the folk tune is joined with fleeting themes that indicate the unexpected; as if the music sometimesis confused as to which way to go. There are constant changes in atmosphere and feeling, from the harsh and dissonant, to the harmonious and melodic. The 3rd movement presents a more lively variant of thefolk tune, showing optimism andhappiness, even though the "halting" character of the rhythm underscores the unpredictable. The title "Reflections", therefore, refers to thoughts we can have about life. To the Conductor:The 2nd movement has an alternativeending which is may be used if the movement is played as an independent lyrical piece in a concert.It is advisable to begin first rehersal with the 2nd movement so that the main theme is known, before beginning on the 1st movement with itsmore semi-tonal parts. Intervals and intonation can provide much of the challenge in this movement.The 3rd movement can be more technically challenging, but there is considerable leeway in the tempo marking! It is important to maintain theenergy and intensity of the music through the whole movement.

The world premiere of the musical Elisabeth took place in Vienna on September 3, 1992. From the great acclaim with which the musical was received, it became clear that the life of the Empress of Austria still appeals to the imagination. Although Elisabeth's life (1837-1898) as an Empress has a fairy-tale-like beginning, it takes a gloomy turn. In this production, Luigi Lucheni, the man who finally takes her life, tells her story. Death plays a major role throughout Elisabeth's life. In the musical, an equally mysterious and attractive man portrays the phenomenon of death, seducing her to the realm of death time after time. Elisabeth's life resembles a fairy tale when shemarries the Emperor Franz Joseph at the age of sixteen. Her mother-in-law, Archduchess Sophie, does not make it easy on Elisabeth. But it is life itself that puts the Empress to the test. First, her youngest daughter dies. Then, not long after her son Rudolf is born, her happiness is clouded when her mother-in-law decides she must take pity on him. After her husband's unfaithfulness and Sophie's death, Elisabeth is so disillusioned that she chooses a travelling existence without realizing her husband and her son, Rudolf, miss her. Rudolf's loneliness is one of the reasons he commits suicide. The accumulation of disappointments in Elisabeth's life almost drives her into the arms of Death. In the end, however, it is Lucheni who kills her.

Scale Studies for Band - James Curnow
An important part of our Essentials of Musicianship Series, Scale Studies for Band is designed to be used as an instructional aid during your normal daily practice. Written so that the scale studies can be interlaced at appropriate times into your rehearsal, they enable you to address the scale and key considerations of your next piece just before starting that piece. For instance, if the next arrangement you will rehearse has a section in the key of G Major, you can take a moment and review the study in that key (Study Number 7). According to Viking mythology, following a battle the bravest souls of the slain would be divided between two Gods, Odin and Freyja. Freyja was the Goddess of Love and War and before going into battle many Viking warriors would pray that they would die bravely so that Freyja would take their soul to join her personal army made up of the souls of the bravest of men.'Freyja's Call' describes one of these, a young Scottish soldier, going into battle as part of the Viking army who occupied parts of Scotland for four centuries. First, a slow theme is heard, Freyja's theme, which is the soldier praying to Freyja to keep a watch on him. Then the drums introduce a new rhythm which announces the beginning of the battle.A Celtic Jig is used to describe the progress of the battle with the jig played quietly at first then gradually louder with more percussion being added until a full ff section signifies the soldier fighting the enemy directly.Suddenly, the music drops back to the quiet Jig theme. The soldier has been slain, but will he be chosen by Frejya? After a short time, Freyja's theme is heard as the brave soldier is taken to Freyja's heavenly army of brave warriors, and the piece then ends in triumph.

Fascinated by the beauty of Chicago, Franco Cesarini has translated his emotions into music: this is how Symphony No. 3 "Urban Landscapes" Op. 55, was born, a musical portrait of this metropolis overlooking Lake Michigan. The composition is divided into three movements: The Wrigley Building from Dawn to Noon, Blue Silhouette and Cloud Gates, which by sharing the same thematic material arranged in cyclical form, strengthen the overall cohesion of the piece. The first movement, preceded by a short slow introduction in which the main theme is presented in an almost dreamlike form, metaphorically represents the city at dawn. The sudden change of time symbolizes the start of activities with all its noises and sounds: you can hear the bell that announces the closing of the subway doors, the sound of cars speeding by, the siren of a patrol car. If the first movement represents the day, the second introduces a nocturnal environment: a melancholic melody played by the English horn anticipates a more animated tempo depicting melodies coming from jazz clubs. Powerful fanfares that take up the second theme of the first movement introduce the third movement. In this finale, the role of the two themes is reversed compared to the first movement and one takes the place of the other in a kind of games of mirrors.
