Like all of our compositions in this performance level, your students can play this within the first few months of study. Thus, getting in a very early concert and keeps kids in the band program. This is a gentle sounding song starting in a minor mode, moving to its relative major and back to minor, a sound not often heard for a beginning band at this level. Clarinets do not cross the break. Shakespeare Meets Godzilla (The Good Bard and the Ugly) (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Buckley, Robert

This inventive and entertaining piece is a mash-up of two entirely different music styles - Renaissance music and classic horror music. Danger is afoot! Shakespeare, armed with only his quill, must stop an enormous creature from destroying his Globe Theatre. As in an epic film score, the music underpins and adds drama to the heroic tale. The effective orchestration and artful interplay between the two music styles gives this piece the colorful sound and intensity of a much more advanced piece.

Franarormen (Optional Piano Solo with Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Aagaard-Nilsen, Torstein

In 1911, the Australian pianist and composer (and friend of Edvard Grieg), Percy Grainger (1882-1961) went on a tour in Norway. He performed more than forty concerts over a few months. Fifty years later, in 2011, The Royal Norwegian Marine Band made a concert project called "Percy Grainger Revisited Tour". "Franarormen" is a worm or a dragon as described in norse medieval ballads. I have used four different tunes from the region Telemark were Fr?narormen is mentioned in the text. The piece is a musical reflection - not at all as drammatic as the text. It is like a picture of an old fairytale and a dwell on the sound of ancient songs. The piece can be performed without the piano part. Instructions to be found in the percussion parts. - Torstein Aagaard-Nilsen

Hidamari (Rhapsody for Wind Orchestra) (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Van der Roost, Jan

Edelweiss Brass Orchestra is a Japanese concert band based in the heart of Tokyo, Japan. Founded in 1978, the ensemble has grown from musical strength to strength and in 2018 they commissioned a new work with Jan Van der Roost for their 40th anniversary concert. The title Hidamari could loosely be translated as In the Sunshine. A short quote from the famous musical The Sound of Music (you got it, Edelweiss!) is a subtle nod to the name of the commissioning ensemble. Hidamari reflects the idea that EBO is like a home for all musicians: together, they are one big family.Duration: 11.30

The Willow Tree (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Ni Uallachain, Padraigin - Sweeney, Michael

Although this haunting tune has the flavor and sentiment of a traditional Irish folk song, it was composed in 1995 by multifaceted artist P?draig?n N? Uallach?in. Her inspiration for the song was the idea that when we are happy or sad, the elements and the natural world are aligned with our feelings. From the wistful lyrics of the song; "Down by the river there's a tall willow tree, who weeps all night for you and me." This evocative setting for band follows this sentiment through peaks and valleys of sound and emotion. Duration: 3:15
