Litany: "In Terra Pax" - Robert Jager
Written following a visit to both the nuclear holocaust "ground zero" of Hiroshima, Japan, and the more conventional holocaust of Pearl Harbor, the opening of this work is meant to capture the solemn and mournful sound of the massive bell at Hiroshima's "ground zero." Remaining melancholy throughout, the composer writes, "The composition, like a prayer, has no answers. Maybe there is no answer. Perhaps a solution must be found within each of us, before there is no longer time." Litany was commissioned by the Galesburg-Augusta, MI, High School Band, Martin Benstein, conductor.

Evergreen Fanfare - Wind Band (Sean Brown)
The majestic Evergreen Fanfare (Sean Brown) was written in Autumn 2010 and is aimed at a young wind band. The composer writes: 'My goal with Evergreen Fanfare was to have the quality of sound and music that a more advanced band work (or even an orchestral work) would have, but at the difficulty level suitable for an advanced middle band or young high school band. My aim is to always write music that is pleasing to listen to for both the performers and audience alike, musical experts or novices alike.' Abalone Sunset
Abalone Sunset captures a glimpse of evening hours at the beach. Written in such a way as to inspire confidence in intermediate players, optional solo opportunities are marked in several instruments. Within the harmony, there are several instances of tension (dissonance) within the sound canvas, expressing the glow of soft color and changing light as the sun sets over a stunning ocean scene.

Polar Vortex
The Polar Vortex is the mass of extremely cold air situated over each of the earth's poles. It is a rhapsodic piece with many contrasting moments, styles, tempos, and colors of sound. A sophisticated new work from composer Gene Milford.

Antagonist
In every great story there is always an antagonist, the character of opposing force who is central to the success of the story. Larry Clark has applied this concept to music in a new beginning band piece, fascinating in sound and an excellent cross-curricular tie with English classes, musically illustrating the structure of a good story. This piece is aggressive and at times, purposely antagonizing. Designed with the youngest of players in mind, it works on simple repeated eighth note patterns as the foundation for the melodic material. As is typical in a Larry Clark piece, interesting parts are provided for all instruments, and everyone gets to play the melody.
