    Citadel - James Barnes

Citadel was composed to commemorate the 150th anniversary of The University of Kansas (1865 to 2015.) It begins with optional offstage chimes (one or two sets [opt.]) to depict the daily ringing of the bells in KU's World War II Memorial Campanile. Trumpets introduce a fanfare-like figure that quickly evolves into the opening theme of the work. As the music settles and becomes softer, a saxophone choir introduces a slower, more pensive middle theme intended to describe the university's academic nature. A quiet moment at the end of this section hints at the famous Rock Chalk Chant in solo horn before the chimes and fanfare return to end the work in a final, dramatic outburst of sound and color.

    Adventures - Jared Spears

A fresh dramatic work for the elementary band, unlike the usual ``grey'' sound of much of the music at this level of difficulty. Spears has explored the registers and lush harmonies easily grasped by these performers.

    Trumpets Triumphant - David Shaffer

A slow, majestic developing band composition written in the style of stately English band music. As the title indicates, the trumpets are featured. Utilizing this composer's rather unique method of writing. "Trumpets Triumphant'' is scored to obtain a full sound from any band, and is playable by groups with unbalanced instrumentation. Equally suitable for festivals, ceremonies, concerts and contest.

    Insurrection - Jay Coles

"Insurrection" is a bold, ominous and aggressively spirited musical juggernaut, full of energy from start to finish! Depicting the intensity and unsettled feel of sudden conflict, it begins with a powerfully introspective statement, and quickly shifts gears to a faster, eerier direction with colliding dissonances and staccato rhythms in the high woodwinds. A calmer emotional release follows, before the revolt against authority returns with the relentless and forceful energy of the opening. The dynamics, choppy woodwind flourishes, powerful low brass riffs, and frenzying percussion brings the idea of a rebellion to your next concert program. This a crisp and exciting concert opener or closer that makes even the youngest of players sound advanced beyond their abilities. Exciting music!

    Vulcan - Michael Daugherty

(2014) Vulcan for Concert Band is Grammy award winning composer Michael Daugherty's first work for the high school and intermediate level college band. The work is a colorful homage to Gene Roddenberry's interstellar universe as depicted in the classic American television series Star Trek (1966-69). The title refers to the fiery planet Vulcan, home world of half-human, half-Vulcan Mr. Spock. As the rational-minded science officer aboard the starship Enterprise (commanded by the hot-blooded Captain James T. Kirk), Mr. Spock grapples with the fascinating predicament of making decisions predicated on human emotion versus Vulcan logic. Daugherty has composed stirring, yet highly structured music that alludes to the Vulcan Pon Farr ritual, Vulcan telepathic mind-melds, and the volcanic planet itself. At the the Ann Arbor, Michigan world premiere (utilizing the combined forces of the Pioneer, Huron and Skyline High School bands), Vulcan was an immediate hit and will surely become one of Daugherty's most performed works. Hymne til gleden - Ludwig van Beethoven

Schiller's text of 1785 was partially used by Beethoven in1824 when he did finish the 4th movement of his 9th Symphony. The melody has later been used in very many contexts. As the anthem of the European Union, a lot of movies (A clockwork Orange, Die Hard, etc.), music to video games, as the anthem of Rhodesia, as rebel song in Chile and by FIFA. Therefore, it can be used in most settings This Young Band arrangement focuses on the main melody. In the original, the B part is repeated in each variation, but to get three variations (out of four), this repetition has been cut. The first variation should be played as soft as possible, but still with a nice sound. Crescendo to forte(f) and going back to pp should be as a surprise.

    Spy Chase - Brant Karrick

Spy Chase evokes images of one's favorite secret agent who is about to embark upon a mission placed deep in the field of crime, espionage, and corruptionand of course our hero will always have time for a little romance. The music will sound reminiscent by using familiar "spy chords," a minor triad with added 6th or raised 7th, and the trademark chromaticism associated with the composer's favorite spy movies. Malkauns - Lindsay Boyd

While teaching in India, composer Lindsay Boyd became acquainted with the fundamentals of Northern Hindustani music. The result is this intriguingly unique work for wind band that incorporates distinctive sounds of India. The "drone" sound of the tambura is available as a free download online, or may be substituted with a marimba. The vocal chanting in the piece is a representation of the syllables used by a tabla player when learning to play this exotic drum. This is a wonderful piece for expanding the musical horizons of your players and audience!
