The title is a combination of the words Introduction and Disco. The composition is made up of a majestic opening, following in a section in disco style based on the same themes.

This piece is dedicated to all the citizens who live, have lived, and will live in the US town of Algona, who commissioned the work to celebrate it's 150th anniversary. With dark-tinted tones (low drums, heavy brass), this overture begins with a primitive sacred feel, it seems as if centuries-old Indian singing is heard once more. Gradually the sound becomes clearer and brighter as the same theme travels throughout the band in various guises and variants. Imposing tutti passages then give the band the chance to lavishly shine. This bright and catchy overture radiates spontaneous energy and as it features every section of the band all the players as well as the listenersare continually surprised and captivated.

TranZendental Danse of Joi - James Bonney
This energetic new work fuses the percussion of street musicians, the wind and brass colors of modern jazz, and the form and structure of classical music. Percussionists play everything from plastic buckets to clay flowerpots while laying down a heavily syncopated groove. There is an open section that allows any instrument you desire the unique opportunity to show off their improvisational skills in a wind ensemble setting. It was originally conceived as a brass band arrangement and published in 1998. It has also appeared as a vocal setting, but has now been faithfully transcribed for wind band by Brian Bowen and we are all sure that this will prove to be a popular addition to the repertoire.

This setting of the beautiful holiday classic is accessible for very young bands. Its memorable melody, notated in a comfortable range, is passed around the sections of ensemble as the other parts play accompaniments that are interesting, yet not difficult. Written in bridge form, the piece begins softly, with soft sleigh bells and clarinets below the break, adding flutes, then brass, then building to a minor section and a very short percussion feature, making it a great opportunity introduce students to this form!

Der Aufstand - Gavin Higgins
Der Aufstand (German for 'riot') is not a descriptive work, nor is it solely based on the riots of 2011. It does, however, draw on the idea of opposing forces and escalating anger. The work falls into two contrasting sections that are linked by a series of repeated, 'screaming' chords. A slow build drives the first section from a single pitch to a blazing orchestral tutti. The second section is a fast and wild series of fanfares and driving rhythms that ultimately cannot be sustained. In many ways this mirrors the first. Both sections open on single tones (Bb and E) and grow to a climax of brass and hammered chords. The first performance took place on the last day of the 2012 Olympic Games. Der Aufstand is a noisy antithesis to the celebratory fanfare.Wind Band Grade: 6 (Professional and elite student and 'national' bands)Duration: 10 minutes
