La Virgen de la Macarena is a traditional bullfighting song made famous by the great trumpet virtuoso Rafael Mendez. This is a standard piece in solo trumpet repertoire that is used on countless festivals and competitions. Ropartz was a French composer who studied with Csar Franck. The terrific contrast between the slow lyrical playing and the bright fanfares makes this piece a great one for demonstrating everything the trumpet can do. The original was scored for cornet and piano and this arrangement for band allows for a wider range of timbres in the accompaniment.

The most popular double concerto for trumpets, Antonio Vivaldi wrote this work for two natural trumpets and strings. The music is simple and elegant, utilizing the non-chromatic capabilities of the natural trumpet. Falling arppegios, half a scale and fanfare figures throughout the work show Vivaldi's skill at taking short simple melodic material and using it through a three movement concerto. The original work is in C major. To allow for performances by trumpet players without the need for piccolo trumpets, this edition has been created. Now this famous piece can be performed on B-flat trumpets.

This Rondeau by Jean Joseph Mouret is recognized today as the opening theme song to Masterpiece Theatre. This famous trumpet solo features the first trumpet section in the band. Alternating sections between brass choir (plus some covering parts) and the complete band make this piece a fun one to play. Rondeau is an audience favourite and this stately piece is sure to be known by all. With typical Baroque articulations and sudden dynamic contrasts, this piece is excellent for not only featuring a section, but working on tight ensemble playing.

Two popular marches from the classical repertoire are paired together in this wonderful new arrangement. Jeremiah Clarke's (1674--1707) "Trumpet Voluntary" was originally written for organ and trumpet and is frequently heard as a processional at wedding ceremonies. Franz Schubert's (1797--1828) "Marche Militaire" was originally written as a piano duet but has been reset for various instrumental ensembles. This effective arrangement gives the young band student an opportunity to perform two of the most famous marches of all time. (Correlated to , Book 1, Page 30)

£50.50Ciudad de Festivales - Larry Henry
Written in A-B-A form, Ciudad de Festivales begins with a rousing introduction using thematic and rhythmic motives. After an initial statement of the melody by a solo trumpet, the piece develops adding instruments and contrapuntal lines. The B section is introduced by a trumpet duet leading to a baritone solo. A short interlude leads to the return of the A section with the addition of obbligato woodwind parts. The introductory themes are used once again as the coda brings the piece to a spirited conclusion.
