Bright Dawn Overture was commissioned to Franco Cesarini by the Swiss Band Association as part of a project for the renewal and expansion of the artistic repertoire. "There was never a night or a problem that could defeat sunrise or hope.". This sentence by the English philosopher Bernard Williams inspired Franco Cesarini in composing this overture. In fact, even the darkest night is always followed by the sunrise and metaphorically, in every moment of difficulty, man clings to the hope of a better future. Bright Dawn Overture is written in the classic form of an Italian overture (fast-slow-fast). It is intended as a hymn of hope of recovery after a period of great difficulty. A single theme characterizes the composition, passing through the various registers and presents itself in new forms, while constantly being transformed. In the central part the theme takes on an almost mystical character, while in the finale it presents itself in a heroic guise and the composition concludes with a gesture of decisive optimism.A piece accessible to most concert bands, perfect as an opening work!

Franco Cesarini was commissioned to write A Glorious Fanfare by the Band Association of the Zug Canton in Switzerland (Zuger Blasmusikverband), to celebrate the centenary of the Association (1922-2022).The composition is the third in a trilogy of scintillating concert opening pieces (which make up opus 38), together with A Triumphant Fanfare and A Joyful Fanfare. A majestic fanfare entrusted to the trumpets introduces the piece. "All men are born free and equal in dignity and rights. They are endowed with reason and conscience and are to meet one another in a spirit of brotherhood." This article 1 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights forms the basic idea behind this majestic Symphony of Freedom. In each of the three movements, the composer picks another angle on this universal theme of freedom. In the first 'Cry for Freedom' it's the Dalai Lama of which the composer is a great admirer. The second movement 'Dream of Freedom' takes the photograph of the deceased three-year-old refugee boy Ailan Kurdi on the beach at Bodrum as a basis. The finale 'Freedom Above All' refers, besides a Bruckner quote, to the music of Ludwig van Beethoven. This movement should be seen first and foremost as an affirmation of life, faith and hope for a better world.

£407.00Symphony Nr. 3 Urban Landscapes Op. 55 - Franco Cesarini
Fascinated by the beauty of Chicago, Franco Cesarini has translated his emotions into music: this is how Symphony No. 3 "Urban Landscapes" Op. 55, was born, a musical portrait of this metropolis overlooking Lake Michigan. The composition is divided into three movements: The Wrigley Building from Dawn to Noon, Blue Silhouette and Cloud Gates, which by sharing the same thematic material arranged in cyclical form, strengthen the overall cohesion of the piece. The first movement, preceded by a short slow introduction in which the main theme is presented in an almost dreamlike form, metaphorically represents the city at dawn. The sudden change of time symbolizes the start of activities with all its noises and sounds: you can hear the bell that announces the closing of the subway doors, the sound of cars speeding by, the siren of a patrol car. If the first movement represents the day, the second introduces a nocturnal environment: a melancholic melody played by the English horn anticipates a more animated tempo depicting melodies coming from jazz clubs. Powerful fanfares that take up the second theme of the first movement introduce the third movement. In this finale, the role of the two themes is reversed compared to the first movement and one takes the place of the other in a kind of games of mirrors. Symphony No. 3 "Urban Landscapes" Op. 55: a sumptuous musical portrait of the "Windy City".

In 'Promenade Waltz' you can picture an evening walk along the beautiful lakeside, then a glass of wine loosens you up leading to the third movement: 'Romance', which starts with a promising conversation...The funny finale 'Monday Morning' brings you back to reality and the score provides the option of the band applauding itself for a job well done! A humorous and joyful new piece by Thomas Doss!

Aurora Dances was commissioned by the Hong Kong-based Winter Band Festival, and consists of three movements, to be played without a break. 'Aurora Borealis' opens with florid woodwind figures and highlights different sections of the band in turn. The second movement 'Aurora Australis' leads to a sombre chorale, which builds to a full-band climax. The finale 'Aurora Dances' is characterised by rhythmic, dance-like themes. A central section features a contrasting legato melody, but this doesn't dispel the energetic feel of the opening, which returns to close the work.Recorded by the Kobe College Wind Orchestra and its conductor Satoshi Yagisawa
