When visiting Oslo I always try to manage to see the Castle Guards Parade marching from Akershus Fortress to the Royal Castle (in the summer season). There is always a feeling of spirit and solemnity when the military band leads the procession through the city and the Karl Johan Street up to the Castle, for the changing of the Castle Guards. A dear tradition for the locals as well as visitors to the Norwegian capitol. This march was composed after watching one of these parades in spring of 2018.The First military band to play the march was the Royal Norwegian Marine Band.- Oyvind StrandDuration: 3.45

These days, many concert bands celebrate their centenary - this provided a good reason to compose the Centennial Celebration. This work has a festive, harmonious and optimistic vibe. A joyful introduction is followed by a lyrical passage with an enticing melody, after which the same theme can be heard in a pop style variation. Next is a kind of trio with a melody that will linger in your mind. Lively sounds bring us back to the lyrical main theme once more, but this time exuberant, like a pop ballad. Triptych was commissioned by Midtun Skoles Musikkorps for their 60th anniversary in 2018.The term triptych originally meant a three-part altarpiece but is used today to denote any piece of art in three parts. This piece has no direct link to the visual arts, religious or not, but retains the original format of a central section with two wings. The main theme of the piece is presented in the slow middle movement, while the outer movements, a rhythmic and energetic opening and a dramatic and eventually triumphant finale, are built around variations of this theme. The intention has been to create a total expression that maintains the connectedness and sense of whole implied by the title, rather than simply being a work in three parts.Duration: 14.30

Pungjazz was originally entitled Klppfesk as a part of my musical with the same name composed in the mid 1980s. It s a nice swing tune which Norwegian trumpet Ole Edvard Antonsen made well-known by including it on his album record Tour de Force (1992). Antonsen re-named it Pungjazz which is a more appropriate title for a trumpet player! It was also performed by Norwegian band Dance with a Stranger.- Frode Alnaes
