Amazing Grace - Score and Parts - Traditional

Program NotesThe life story of John Newton is well-documented and his occupation as a slave-trader and subsequent conversion and ordination as curate of Olney, Buckinghamshire, well-known. This incredible story probably makes the words to Amazing Grace! so remarkable, although, Newton can only be credited for the first three verses. This arrangement, although not technically difficult, will require a sustained sound towards the end during its climactic conclusion. It is therefore advisable that the physical demands be understood before commencement so that the correct measurement of exertion can be made throughout the presentation.

Angel Trumpets - Score and Parts - Richard Phillips

This march contains a selection of carols with linking themes; 'Hark! the herald angels sing' and 'Angels from the realms of Glory' proclaiming 'Joy to the world' are clearly evident. The latter stage of the march employs an English traditional carol, 'The holly and the ivy' and a Welsh traditional carol, 'Deck the hall with boughs of holly'.

Blue is the Sky - Charles Timberlake

This noble melody by Charles Timberlake has been beautifully arranged for concert band by Geoff Lawson. It has a 'militaristic' quality and would not be out of place at a formal ceremony, remembrance or wartime anniversary.

    Celestial Prospect - Wilfred Heaton

Wilfred Heaton's compositions have a worldwide appreciation and although his output was small it is work of the highest integrity and calibre. The history surrounding 'Celestial Prospect' is somewhat sketchy. The composer describes it as a re-casting of an earlier work written sometime in the 1940's, the score of which is now lost. The theme 'Come Comrades Dear' has been known from Christian Mission days and reflects the composer's penchant for old Salvation Army tunes which are simple and direct in character. The following 5 variations contain much interest and originality including a beautiful elegy to departed comrades.

Christmas Calypso - Score and Parts - Peter Graham

Listeners will instantly recognize the stylistic and thematic resemblances to the well-known 'Peanut Vendor' song that underpins this entertaining light-hearted Christmas arrangement. Based on the familiar Christmas song The Virgin Had a Baby Boy, this arrangement is bound to prove popular to both players and listened, with lots of possibilities for the use of additional percussion effects and maybe even some audience participation in that area!
