    Celtic Holy Night

The holy night of Christmas is celebrated in many cultures throughout the world. Robert W. Smith gives us a new arrangement of the classic carol "O Holy Night" in a Celtic style. Following a beautiful introductory statement, the Irish musical roots come to the fore through percussion and flutes as they create an Irish jig. The clarinets present the melody in the beautiful chalumeau register juxtaposed against the jig. The arrangement builds throughout leading to a very exciting conclusion that is decidedly an Irish celebration. Very highly recommended!Original Item#: RWS-1932-00

    Patapan

This sprightly arrangement of the well-known French carol imagines shepherds playing their primitive instruments as they celebrate news of a baby born in Bethlehem. What begins as whispers from the flute and drum grow as word spreads and a fugue-like melody bounces between instruments. The song builds to a powerful climax as the shepherds gather and march down from their pastures together.Original Item#: RWS-2244-00

On This Day Earth Shall Ring

The 14th-century carol, "Personent hodie," is both mysterious and powerful. ---a festive processional on the ancient melody arranged by Scott Watson---explores both aspects. Beginning quietly, the modal tune emerges over a chant drone with rustic, medieval percussion. Before long, the piece takes on the joyous character alluded to in the tune's most familiar English text setting, "On This Day Earth Shall Ring" (written by composer, Jane Joseph, a student of Gustav Holst). As the work draws to an ebullient close, all the stops are pulled with resounding brass and ringing metallic percussion! Whether used as a striking concert opener or a jubilant final selection, will add festive lan to your winter/holiday program! (3:28) This title is available in MakeMusic Cloud.
